Dog Box Marking??

Post by TallDog »

Does anyone have any ideas on how to permanently and clearly mark an aluminum dog box? I've been thinking having my name scribed on the box with an aluminum weld but I'm not familiar with aluminum welding. I do know that I don't want a hole burned through the box. I want the box clearly marked so that any thief would be very nervous about having it in their truck or trying to sell it. Like your dog box, mine is on display for thieves in parking lots, alongside country roads and in front of the house. I'm afraid my luck is going to run out and I can't afford to replace an Owens at $700 - $780. Of course, chaining and locking it to the truck is important but the box handled aren't all that strong as an anchor point.

Rabbithunter has the right idea, but also engrave your last 4 numbers of your ss number very small where it can't be seen, or hide it with paint or body putty. Because the first thing the lowlife will do is grind off your welded name. If you see the box you will know it was yours and even if they ground off the weld you will have the hidden ss # to prove its yours. A thief will have a hard time explaining what those four numbers have in common with him.

Tall Dog;
Owens makes a Bracket that you bolt into the bed of a truck and then the Box Locks into that Bracket so it is Locked in place in the Bed. Also what I tell eveyone is to go to Lowes and buy a Cable Lock and go thru both of the Handles but like you said you are not going to stop someone frome stealing it if they want it bad enough. Also you might take a Name tag and put it in between the sections on the divider in the back maybe they will not see it if you are lucky.

A thief is a thief and hard to stop. I just had a 20 Ft 10,000# , $3200.00 trailer stolen from inside a chain link closure locked and a security camera

When the Heroin addicts stole my Continental box it was in broad daylight and they backed up to it...cut the cable lock and loaded it. ( 1 of them later told me how the whole theft went down). they then proceded to take it to the woods and smashed it up and sold it for scrap aluminum...I got a new box VIA my homeowners insurance less the deductable and i lost all my leashes and chaps and medical kit and collars and water bowls and a flashlight and my rain suit....yea it pretty much sucked all the way around. BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT when i did find out who stole it...the guy who did all the talking was very chatty when i had his hand smashed in my truck door.. he runs everytime he sees me now...and the other addict is doing time for burgalry and i will deal with him when he gets out. I have 3 more truck doors and he only has 2 hands so i got it covered. may have to use the tailgate on his sorry butt for making me wait so long
