night running

Post by PREACHERS KENNEL »

me and 2 buddies went running last night ,, turned loose at 11,, picked them up at 2;30 ,, ........

best run was a little over a hr ,,another about 45 minutes.... 3 more around 20 minutes,, multiple splits ,,,and a few babies rabit runs mixed in there too , not much down time at all. poor dogs were wore out .

i aint never been a big night runnner but it sure was fun last night ,,fulll moon ,,it had rained off and on all day!.. and didnt rain last night ,but was a light breeze.

Better be careful you will get hooked on night running even in late fall you can flat make some noise on a quiet crisp night we used to hunt at night more than days a few years back

Too hot to run in the day, so I run them at night. I forgot how much fun running dogs can be at night. Been years since the coon hunting days.

Sounds like fun! I have never run my dogs at night but I think I'm going to have to. It's just been too hot and dry, even in the evening, dogs hardly want to do much! And this coming week is going to be in the 90s!! I think I'll get out there about 9 pm and see what happeneds! I'll have to take a big flashight and carry xtra bugspray!! :D

Be careful mixing your hounds back in around the puppies! Parvo can be carried in on hounds and human.
I saw a coon up on the kennels last night when the hounds were barking, he looked to be a big healthy one tho... :)

It is alot of fun but IMO it can take the hunt out of a dog. I do it a little but I dont do it alot. Rabbits are out more at night and easier to find and the hunt factor can suffer some but it is alot of fun. I like it with the flashing lights on the collars.

i only night run about once a month maybe twice at most during the summer months.. hunt is not an issue with my dogs i promise you lol. they gonna hunt ,,from a 1 -10 scale my worst is a 8 so that aint bad..

i do prefer to be able to see ,what the dogs are doing more ,so night running at my best thing but on a full moon night like last night it was funn,,,we actually seen the rabbit cross twice a gravel road///

We run em all summer at night. It is to hot down here in florida during the day and sometimes it takes until after midnight to get below 80. Nothing like that swamp music on a clear still night.

I do a lot of night running because I don't get home from work until 6 PM most days so if I'm working a dog hard I have to run late into the evening. I just bought a new LED Light made by Crystal that is really impressive. The battery pack is not much bigger than a pack of ciggarrettes , very light, and very bright. It is supposed to run 30 hrs on the low beam before recharging. Really makes gathering the dogs up easier.

I love night running. Rabbits that go straight to a hole during daylight will run for hours at night.
If night running ruins their hunt they didn't have it to start with.
Any dog that has a nose and will get of my shadow can jump a rabbit at night or in the spring. The rabbits are out feeding. The same dog is useless when the season opens and the rabbits are sitting deep in a brush pile or briar patch.

I love runnin my young dogs at night, it really shows them how to use their nose and run the track and forget about what the pack is doin and really focus on the rabbit....just watch out for coyotes..

we run by the lake ,,, its a big big point ..nowhere for the dogs to go ...if they go one certain direction it probably aint right . but rabbits do go that way sometimes ./.. if its a young dog going that way by itself we shock it back ..
