I generally run 16-18 at a time, go out alone, and always in big country, never in enclosures. They are as deer-proof as they come, and I test that every time out. They are linebred, black and tan, and nearly impossible to tell apart at any distance unless you know them very well, and even then it is hard. They drive their rabbits enough that I seldom get chases of more than an hour because the rabbits will find a hole to keep from being caught.

I think the key to a uniform pack is having them all the same speed so that you have no leader and no hounds dragging in the rear. The best way to do this is have them all bred alike. In my pack, there is no leader and no "anchor". At any given moment, you may see any of them leading or in the rear. Most of the time, I have several leaders, all striving for the front. I hate the term "slot up". Hounds that are content to "slot up" may give you a nice smooth, easy chase, but they do not put pressure on their game the way my hounds do and give chases to make your hair stand on end at times.

If this type of hunting interests you and you want to read more, you can check out my website at http://www.woodpontbeagles.com. There you will find pictures and accounts of chases to tell you more.
I have to agree your dogs are awesome!

What speed are your dogs? I wonder if they would be good running hare in Michigan? You sure know how to breed those dual beagles Thanks Rich.

Thats the way mine are its not a great chore to get a pack like that when i was running line bred gay i had alot of problems because ther was some much difference in thier speed i had 6 gay hounds and i had one that would absolutely smoke 3 of them the other 2 run up with her pretty good and what surprised me is they all come out of the same kennel but when i outcrossed with haunted hill i got better consistancy and they all look like faster linebred gay i didnt loose nothing by outcrossing but gained alot with hunt and drive and a consistancy with mouth all my pups have outstanding mouths thus far

I guess it could be funny but its work some of us shouldnt be so picky im prob one of the pickiest when it comes to my rabbit dogs Some it dont matter if they got a 16 incher and a 12 incher and a 1-10 on speed as long as they run and bark wished i was more like that to a point sure would make putting a pack togather alot easier
