Dingus you took what I said out of context. I never said their should be seperate types of dogs. They should be one in the same. Still put a dog in a hunting pack and it works together, same dog put in a trial is competing against other dogs.

JEEEZ, I can't believe this thing is still going on....LOL!! Good to see people are involved. It's all good. Everyone has to like what he feeds. I do know one thing. Next time I get a dog that can't work the check from the inside out or comes to a check and blows thru it, or doesn't at least slow down at a loss or snaps back to the point of loss I at least know I can give it to "bucks better beagles". I will drive it up to you and give you a free bag of food and some collars.....DH P.S. Just kidding my man, But if thats what you like I respect that. Everyone be safe.

I think that everyone has line contol confused with walkie talkie dogs. Everyone who is saying they like line control has lprch and midwest fc. They must not be as bad as the speed/swing guys think because they seem to be competing in your formats just fine. shorts pro and in line black jack are 3 on foot. the line control hounds these people are talking about are 6 to 8 with a head on their shoulders. If you read you can figure it out!
Re: How Important is close check work?
I run and judge midwest trials, speed with control looks pretty good, rough and crazy does not. A dog that can turn out from a pack that misses the turn looks pretty good. Over running the end and having no clue where the turn was can be summed up this way, "the cheese fell off the cracker". A dog that can make turns, figure out doubles, get checks and get some time on the front is what we should be after.

I've never seen it....not once.

Re: How Important is close check work?
most dogs fight for front of pack for two reasons .one is they know that scenting is better b4 other dogs have crossed . another reason is competitive hounds not tuned in to rabbit. many checks are created when rabbit turns or crosses path or starts running . attuned in dog that knows how to run its own rabbit will at least know where to look for check. remember a rabbit has 3 scents -bottom of feet -body scent -gland right in front of tail .ever notice how dogs will put nose on ground spin around till they get direction right. the rabbit leaves the most scent when he is hopping along or when a dog heats up rabbit gets really close and goes on body scent. i have many times seen dogs hang on to it get close and simply run it down. some dogs simply have better instinct where to look for check than others .some always turn a certain way make a short hard loop i like left turns better .others just seem to reach the right way . some dogs also make really sure in check and follow trail out b4 opening up did this dog swing no it did not .the main thing to look for in check is the dog hustling to look for it does he ever cross the path and not find it may indicate lack of nose .if they start watching other dogs they definitely need solo time lack confidence and need tuned in .most young pups will show their potential early on also their weakneses.look for brians- nose -drive -stick-staminia-rabbit nuts ability to find own check early on

I know you are kiddin man but, I'm not. You know what I like, I put it right out there for all to read. If you get the right one, I will not only take it but Pay for your gas and food to drive it to me! In addition, we can go run em for a few hours and have some fun. Guaranteed! That's why I have owned so many dogs, I'm a good place to get rid of the ones other people don't like.

You are right brother Deerhost. It has been raining here in Michigan for about 5 days. I live by a little river and the carp are up in my yard. Not too wet to go run them for a while though my wife says I am absolutely crazy.

I have a gyp that can swing with the best of them and I have never found her under the truck. She has pups right now out of my swing male dog so I would think the pups would be big swing dogs also.

Re: How Important is close check work?
neil very well put. i like a pack of dogs not 6 indvidual dogs, but my goal is to win aginst the rabbit not the other dogs. alot of people want to have a dog that is better than every other dog & thats ok. i dont care if my dog is not better than any dog as long as it is better than every rabbit no matter the scenting conditions. hope i said it where it can be understood, no insults ment. i feed what i want& enjoy doing it.
