Storing dogfood

Anyone keep their dry food indoors ? My daughter and I was tending to dogs and she asked me why I fed them cold frozen food ? Never put any thought into it before she mentioned it.

I've always stored mine inside, in five-gallon buckets with lid's.

I keep mine in the garage in a trash can with a lid. It says on the bag to store in a dry cool place.

Rarely more than a 30 day supply. The worst is during times of high humidity when the weather is going from cold to warm(condensation). We've had some seals on the bags come loose when they used to glue shut but now most are sewn closed, much better but you still need to watch the feed and not keep to large a supply on hand too long for fear of mold to set in.

We have a feed room where the feed sacks are stacked upon 7gal plastic buckets, this is high enough any mice are discouraged from climbing or jumping to have a snack.

I keep mine inside in a container that I bought at TSC just holds a 40 lb bag

I keep mine in a 55 gal Brute Rubbermaid trash barrel with a lid and leave it in the kennel year round. It will hold about 3 and a half 50 lb. bags at a time and is always right there when I get ready to feed and so far it has never developed any moisture and I don't have to worry about the mice or anything getting in it. I used to use a metal garbage can but did get moisture from time to time until I changed to the rubbermaid barrel.

I cut the top off of a Blue Plastic barrel...55 gallon I think, they used it for apple Juice before I bought it. I can put 3 big bags in it and then I keep a flat 3/4 ' plywood lid on it to keep out freeloaders. I ALWAYS run the barrel till its empty and then take it outside and turn it upside down to get out the crumbs and grindings and junk that filters down. Then I like to wipe the barrel out with a clorox clean up paper towel and let it dry ....then I dump a couple bags in it and its good for awhile. keeps it clean and fungus free. I have used a galvanized metal bucket( from Dollar general) and a metal scoop for 20 years now and they help keep the whole process sanitary. I do feed with a pour on hot broth all winter so I dump the food in the bowl and pour the broth on and EVEN though I have heated water buckets...I KNOW EXACTLY how much water the dogs are getting each day at a minimum. I swear some dogs NEVER drink during the winter until they are out running and everythings frozen solid. Now I know the food is in good condition and the dog is staying hydrated with ATLEAST a full bowl of water everyday.....good luck hope this helped

I buy a ton at a time and keep it in my basement which is pretty much controlled as to temp. and humidity. This ton last my cousin and I about a year and we have had no problems with any type of off condition. I usually stack it on two pallets off the floor and have my trap line set for mice. I don't get too many but occasionally I will catch a mouse. I also have a grey rubbermaid container with a lid that will hold a 50 pouind bag that I fill and feed from once I open a bag. This has been working for years.

I think a lot guys that keep their dog food in drums --just add more food when the drum get low and the bottom is NEVER used or gets moldy --this what I seen --

You are right. My uncle was doing that until I told him to make sure he empied the barrel completely before adding more food.

I always make sure to empty out the bottom of the covered storage bucket each time I add a new bag. I have a 5 gallon plastic bucket next to the covered one and when I get down to where there's not enough to feed I dump what is in the bottom into the plastic 5 gallon bucket. I then use what is in the 5 gallon bucket and add the new bag to the feeding. First opened, first used even if from thr same ton batch.
