For all you breeders - Advice!

Post by bocephus52804 »

I am attempting to have my first ever litter. They hooked on days 9,11 and 13. Today is day 15 and although she has been willing to stand at certain times they have not hooked. Do you think she is bred?

The males sperm lives for 72 to 96 hours in the female. You should have no problem. Good luck with your puppies

I count 63 days from the first time they hook but the number of days can vary. I have had one that had pups in 59 days and had some that went as long as 66-67 days before having pups.

Some extra advice, don't over feed your female while she is pregnant

I go from the first day they hook up and never change type or amount of food til the pups are welped. All my problems with pups come after they get here. Got a litter due tomorrow or a little later. Got a Kane heat pad and 100watt light in the welping box and just hoping for the best.

I don't trust my math so I use a pregnancy calculator.lol

Bocephus, You are going to have puppies. If you have an even number you will have the same amount of females as males. If you have an odd number you will have one trans gender pup. you will be able to tell which one is transgender when they get older, it will dress funny! This was caused by breeding all through the heat cycle! See the post titled "what does evertone think of this".

Hopefully the weather will moderate by the times the pups arrive. I have some pups outside but in a heated house. Temps are forecast for a pretty sharp drop within a few hours.
