A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)

I heard the state of washington has got huge rabbit population no limit on kill. But the u.p. is where the big running happens. Then if you are going to trial the mid west is where to be with number of clubs. I am torn. Where to live Wow thats a tuff one. O.K> give me beer dogs and a few good friends and it really does not matter.
Interesting to see that most people said they'd stay where they are now....But the question was "Where would you move?"
Here's what my criteria would be:
Moderate climate - Very little snow especially. I like to run a big pack and it does not work well on snow. But I don't want it too hot in summer either...
No deer ticks - Those little tiny guys that carry lyme disease are too hard to see on man and hound. And think of the cost of vaccinating 20 running hounds for Lyme!
Low human population - Too many people equals too many do-gooders making laws and rules about what you can and can't do with your hunting and your breeding kennel. More people just equals more anti-hunters. Give me a rural area.
Year 'round running - Several states tell you that you can't run hounds in the springtime and/or summer. I have my best running then. I want no restrictions on when I can run my hounds.
Large public hunting areas - I love KY, for example, but their public hunting is very limited in most areas of the state. I like places to go where there are no houses and I don't have to ask for permission. I want a state that buys land and makes it available to the public.
Rolling terrain - Not too steep and not all flat either. I want to be able to climb a little knoll and watch my hounds when I get to be an old man, not wonder where they went out across the flat plain because I can no longer hear them.

23% of the State's Total land size is open for hunting.
The state is 1953 sq Miles. 285,000 Ac of wildlife areas
Arkansas - Plenty of timberland and cropland, hills or swamps, your choice of cottontails or swampers. Yotes can be a problem in the hills and snakes in both the low and high ground. Like all places, rabbit numbers fluxuate from year to year.
Do not move to Missouri next to Joey because he keeps his Honey Holes a BIG SECRET.
