I have a mossberg 20 gauge and I love it! I've had it for about 15 years now. I only rabbit hunt with it and use a modified choke in it with 6 shot. I have killed a bunch with it (wont say nothin about the missin LOL) but I think you will really enjoy your new toy.

I prefer a 20ga.
I cut the barrel off at 18.5 inches and threaded it for choke tubes.
I have shot deer, bear, snowshoes, rabbits, grouse, just about everything with that sawed off model 500.
A 20ga. is actually more accurate slug gun than a 12 ga. and a 12 ga. is awful big for rabbits.
I use number 6's to 7 1/2's most of the time for rabbits, with a mod. choke tube.

I bought it for $40.00 about 15 years ago from a guy at work.
I love that gun!

I use to only use my 500 12 gauge for turkey huntin and my Smith and Wesson 12 gauge semi auto for rabbits/dove.I quit turkey hunting and started running dogs year round about 3 years ago,now the 500 is a rabbit gun as well. Its 8 for 12 on rabbits this year the Ive only hit 1 with the S&W.I use 6's no matter what I shoot though. No matter what i cant help but use the smitty more often than not a lot of history with that gun.
God made dogs....Then he made BEAGLES!
