Last year I hunted with a Western Auto 410 pump most of the season, love that gun. A few times with a Thompson Contender 410, lots of fun!!!! And would carry an M-1 Benelli Guage when there was a chance of birds, grouse, pheasant or quai along with rabbit or hare.l.

This year I purchased a Benelli Legacy 28 Guage, hoping that it will still be fun on rabbit and pack enough to consistently take down birds also. It is the lightest auto loading shotgun made only 5 pounds so it will be great to carry all day. Its just stunningly beautiful so I'll probably be gunshy of it getting scratched for a while LOL but I'm getting good on clays with it and now I'm excited to use it on game. I have found that on occasion I can hit some birds with a 410, but the fact that it shoots the pattern in more of a string makes it far more difficult than other guages to hit birds. Dont mind missing rabbits and hare, but want a sporting chance at those grouse LOL.

old clips--gonna be getting some new ones soon
Those are some pretty cool vids!

Are you holding the camera, or is it a hat-mount thing? The pheasant shot... is that one of those Halo-sights or a red-dot on that T/C?

One of my all time most memerable shots was w/ a T/C Encore in .410. I'd been working w/ a young male Llewellin setter. It was opening week of grouse in PA. I had a day off in the middle of the week, and I wanted to get this setter pup out in a real hunting situation. He'd been doing real well in training, but he'd never been hunted over. I took one of my nephews (he didn't need much convincing to blow off a day of school for grouse hunting!) and told him that he was going to be my gunner as I wanted to focus on the dog handling. We got about fifteen minutes into some good grouse cover, and the pup went on point. My nephew was a little above me in thick cover. I had brought along my Encore jsut to make some noise over the dog at appropriate times. Since I didn't think he could get down to the point, I yelled for him to get ready for a flush and I tried to manuver around the pup to send the bird up toward him. I readied the Encore to make some noise at the flush for "training purposes." Well, the bird didn't flush like I intended. It went down the hill instead of up toward my nephew. But it gave me this great open straight away opportunity that I couldn't pass up. I snapped off a shot, and the bird dropped! It was the first wild bird that pup ever pointed, and I killed it w/ a .410 handgun! I couldn't believe it!

Unfortunately, that pup got killed by a car three weeks later while we were doing some pheasant hunting. I had just pulled into a spot on a remote back road and let the pup out of the box. These two kids come flying up the road, way to fast for a small, one-lane dirt road, and blasted him. They never even slowed down. I went looking for those bastards. It's probably a good thing I never caught up to them.

That pup would have made one heck-of-a bird dog.

this is the camera--the folks who have been here a while are probably tired of seeing the clips.

some dont think that a little psitol has the power to put game down,i know its/my limits, some folks just gotta see it to beleive it and even then they wont beleive it can be done day in/day out.
my opinion is why carry a big longgun when that arm can carry a thermos and a donut haha

I carry several guns during the course of rabbit season but I think to narrow it down to the three favorites it has to be:
1. Winchester Model 12 16ga
2.Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 ga
3.Remington 870 Express .410

I use anything in 28ga. It started with a remington 1100 special field, then I switched to a side by side now I use an H&R topper single shot. I just bought a Browning Cynergy in 28ga but I don't think that will be on the Island this year.

Remington 870 youth 20 gauge. Lightweight and short. I hunted with the one I bought my son last year and today my wife gave me one for my birthday!

I am sold on the fact that the Model 12 were by far one of the best guns ever produced to hunt with.

Definately the best pump-gun ever made.

Some day I'd like to pick up a little model 42. Even one of the Browning Repro's would work for me. There's a guy at my local gun club that has on more than a few occasions gone over 25 straight w/ a 42 on the skeet range.

LC smith SXS 20 is my frist choice. Been hunting with it since I started as a little fellow. Grand dad bought it after he got out of the Army after WWII. Dad grew up hunting with it and I have had it for a while. Always try to kill a few with it just for memory sake. Remington 1100 lt-20 special field if i am really tring to get one killed. Mostly a Moss 500 410 now. It is just so much fun to hunt with the little guns.

For the guys with the Charles Daly 20 gauges. Its so light and I love mine too but I have to shoot high brass shells. The low brass skeet trap shells only go off about every other 5 for some reason. I have another 20 guage and it puts em off fine. Just curious if any of you have had this problem.
