fraudulent emails

Post by snowhound »

WE HAVE BEEN GETTING A NUMBER OF FRAUDULENT EMAILS, MOSTLY ASKING FOR MONEY. JUDGING BY THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE USED, THESE ARE EITHER FROM EASTERN EUROPE OR AFRICA.
EMAIL ADDRESSES FROM BEAGLERS ARE USED AS WELL AS THEIR NAMES. SOME WE KNOW, SOME WE'VE NEVER HEARD OF.
IT SEEMS TO ME SOMEONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO GET INTO A BEAGLERS' COMPUTOR AND TAKE OVER HIS ADDRESSBOOK.
I URGE EVERYONE TO CHECK AND MAKE SURE YOUR VIRUS PROGRAMS ARE UP-TO-DATE.
ALSO, WHEN SENDING ANYONE AN EMAIL, SIGN IT WITH YOUR OWN NAME AND INCLUDE YOUR PHONE NUMBER.

Frieda, this happened to me earlier this year. I was instructed by my internet provider to "change my e-mail password", as soon as I did, no one received anymore emails using my address as the sender. Hope this helps...They also said passwords should be changed every few months to insure this dosent happen in the future. Hope all is well up North, best wishes to the family!
