A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
I heard that Shake Rag Ozzie passed a few days ago. He was ready to turn 12 years old soon! Sorry to here the News Bev & Jim, and anyone else associated with this excellent bred hunting machine. He's one Stud that I wish that I had a kennel full of his Ol breeding, its hard to go wrong with that much Dingus...
I hope you all have many a young pup that will remind you of Ozzie somehow!
God Bless Ya

Sorry to hear about Ozzie! Not many still left around that carry that much Dingus. I hope Ranger turns out to be just like him.

So sorry to hear this. Always thought Ozzie was a great looking hound, and as for running, well, his record speaks to that pretty well. RIP to a fine, fine hound.
I got to hunt with Ozzie, Clem, Spot & Dingus this past hunting season. The weather was not great but the dogs were. At old age and very little hearing Ole Ozzie still hunted as hard if not harder than most young dogs in their prime today. My thoughts are with you Bev & Jim.
I remember 2 years ago being at Jim's house when another man was there "can't remember who", Jim was in the kitchen and that man shewed Ozzie out of a recliner when he was by a fire. Jim came in there and quickly shewed that man out and told him that was Ozzie's chair. He loved that ole dog.
It always hurts to loose those hounds who hold a special place in our hearts, but I hope Bev will be able to find solace in having Ozzie spend his last years doing what he was bred for and enjoying his life with Mr. Jim Lane. From what I have read on this board multiple times about Jim's ability to do the '"Right" thing even at the cost of his own personal welfare, Ozzie couldn't have been placed with a better man or steward. I'm guessing that wasn't a coincidence.

Thank you all for the kind words. For me to say that Ozzie was a good hound just doesn't seem enough. I bought the dog 3 times. I bought him originally as a 2-year-old and enjoyed trialing and rabbit hunting with him for a while. My other half at the time wanted more speed and sold him to a beagling friend in northern Indiana. He kept Ozzie for a while and then I bought him back. Then Kenneth lost a male (I'm thinking Ozzie's littermate brother) and I sent Ozzie back to Tennessee so he could be bred. Ozzie ended up with a beagler in Michigan, and I bought him back again. This time the husband went and the dog stayed. I can honestly say that the dog never gave me a day's misery or or a moment of embarrassment.
Somewhere between Little Pack speed and Progressive Pack, possessed enough foot, nose and line to champion in 3 formats and 2 registries. He was also a Grand Bench Champion in both ARHA and UKC. Ozzie was that perfect tweener. If you consider he was a natural retriever and no problem in the kennel, to me, he was as close to a perfect hunting beagle as one could want. Kudos to Kenneth and Nick Hill for their meticulous breeding program.
Thanks to Jim, Ozzie did indeed live the remainder of his life out as I wished for him. He ran rabbits up to his last day. I will miss getting reports about him, and even though I know he was aged, my heart tugs more than a little to think of him being gone; it aches just a little each time I look at his picture at the top of this page. In one of the biggest transitions of my life, Ozzie was with me, and that gave me a little bit of comfort -- seeing him in my back yard and feeling like I hadn't lost everything afterall.
Thanks again, Jim. And to those who now have puppies off of Ozzie, I hope they give you everything you are looking for in a hound. I hope they become dogs you would buy two times over again.
Who was ozzie sire? I think i have a half sister to him.

I had the chance to see Ozzie run at the Woodbury Classic. He was running by hisself do to his age, and done it in style. I know there will be an empty spot, in Bev and Jim's heart. Sorry for your loss.
To old to cut the mustard, you can always run beagles
Sorry to hear of Ozzie's passing.Saw him run many times when he was being trialed by the Hill's of Shakerag Kennel.Bill Miller of Manchester,Tn. still has Ozzie's littermate brother Gr.R.CH Shamrock who even though old and not in shape can still put a circle on a wily cottontail.
