TORNADOES
Blackdirt man----you better get ready. Yesterday the town of Bradgate Iowa was blown off the map by a tornado 1/2 mile wide! Tonight there is a line of huge storms stretching from SW to NE Iowa and they are training along that line. The weatherman just said too many tornadoes to count and there were picture after picture of tornadoes on the local news. 5 inches of rain and much more to come he says. Blackdirt it is coming your way and up into Wisconsin and seem to be getting stronger into the night. I never seen nothing like it and hope my house is still here in the morning. There is a big chunk that has broke off the main line and heading right toward me in about 3 hours or so. It has straight line winds of 65 mph. Central Iowa is flooded big time. Take the dogs to the cellar and hope for the best.

Bevington Iowa, which is about 60 miles west of here, just reported straight line wind gust of 106 miles per hour. Not a tornado but a straight wind coming out of a line of strong storms. We have mini weather stations all over the state at many schools which relay the info directly to the news channel. The main winds of this storm are now 60 to 80 mph. I always liked the Wizard of OZ, but I never wanted to be in the movie!!
I was just reading over some posts to pass the morning hours and well.I just would like to know how everyone made out in those bad storms and if you guys are ok.I have a tree down behind the house and most everywhere had water over the roads and all I got was about 4 inches of water in the basement. The storms went through the nite and caused alot of power outage. All in all,in the area I live,Canfield,Ohio,we didn't have a great deal of distruction. You are out there where it really can be a nightmare. My prayer's are with you...Ray

We missed a bullet early this morning.. I don't know why but for some reason storms have been breaking apart the last 3 years just about when they get to this spot on the map. That has been the reason for the bad drought here the last 3 years. It will rain 10 miles away all around here and it just won't rain here most times. I have no explanation for that but last night it worked in my favor it looks like. Right after the 106 wind in Bevington, the storm calmed down and we just got rain and not too much right here. Maybe a 1/4 inch. If you go 20 miles to the NW, W or N, it was much worse clear up into NE corner about 200 miles. They just showed about 15 tornado locations in Iowa. Some spots got 8 inches of rain. Suppose to get more Monday night. The map showed Mich Ohio NY and others got pounded too.
I hope everyone is safe.
We had 6 people killed in a tornado here, about a year and half ago.
I knew 3 of the people quite well.
My parents lost their home in the tornado as well.
The only room that wasn't hurt was the room they were in. I believe the Lord Himself held that place together.
They have since rebuilt their home, but the aftermath of the tornado is still everywhere.

ITS THE CHIEF!!!! HE WATCHES OUT FOR ME. He is buried right beside my house. We have a pact. I don't let nobody bother him and he don't let nobody bother me. I live in the country and right beside my house is the old Indian Agency. This is where the US gov't bought the Iowa Territories from the Faux I think it was. Blackhawk I think ajnd Cheif Wapello. Anyway, Chief Wapello is buried beside my house here along with General Street who was the Indian agent. They were close friends and asked to be buried together and I believe it is the only such place where an Indian and white man were buried together at that point in history. Our county is named for the Chief and our town is named Agency. The old builing is gone and is now a soybean and corn field but I find lots of old brick type foundation and pottery shards etc. out there. I watch the gravesites and try to make sure no one messes around with them. Lots of people stop and visit the site and leave their name in the book. People around here have great respect for Chief Wapello as he was a good person as history records it. I feel humbled when I realize the great sacrifice that these people made. Iowans in general have great respect for Native American people. Most nights its just me and Chief Wapello and Gen Street resting among the trees enjoying Gods Cathedral.
