A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
bucks better beagles wrote:All this patch stuff. I have owned many patches. If someone could show me one superior patch hound that was better than a superior hound of another breed, perhaps I could accept them as something to be pursued. However, I have never seen it. It would seem that patch purists are members of a stubbornly persistent elitism. Clinging to "purity" eventually leads to dilution of all. Other than color, they have little to offer over any other breed, imo. There are good and there are bad, just like any other breed. And white gets old after a while.
I suppose it is the same idea as "I'd rather push a Harley than ride a Honda" slogan in motorcyles.
What do you tell a patch guy with 2 black eyes nothing you already told him twice. I'm joken guys I think its great that you guys stand so strong behind this line of hounds. If more guys did this I think the breed would be better as a whole. Thanks and to each there own run and breed what you like. Don nash

thanks guys i didnt get to read any of this since my last post. i was at a trial yesterday. I get on here and ruffle some feathers with all this patch hound stuff. truth be told i own one and then a heinz 57 and a partial patch. I like all my dogs. I run with some real good local bred dogs i like them to. My dogs are probably complete junk compared to yours but i still love them and will make you think that there the best dogs in the world even though there probably not.
also i liked some of the jokes ive never heard them before. gave me a good laugh for a monday morning
feeding what you like and likeing what you feed is the name of the game anyhow andrew..
i like my patch dogs and have some of the purest stuff there is, far as i know .. but they suit me thats what really matters ,they could be pure gold, if the ran a rabbit sorry ,i wouldnt be happy...
I purchased two patch femal pups the other day from Mr. DC Jackson (nice gentleman), peaches and cream. Once I learn how tp post picture I'll introduce them to the board!

We too have our Patch hounds in the house. I personally think the folks that have them in kennels are missing the best part of these dogs. They are loving companions, entertaining and tolerant of most anything that comes their way. As for hunting, they are rabbit hunting machines simply by nature. AKC already has a definition for Patchs, so why not just get a different standard? 13" beagle, 15" beagle and Patch? Look at all the different types of Cocker Spaniels and such.
you patch people are completely insane. a different breed a different standard? remember folks they are all beagles. i've seen and judged good ones but i've also seen a bunch of sh*t eaters too. i've owed one before and don't ever plan on owning another. but as i say feed what you like. remember one man's trash is another man's treasure and one man's treasure is another man's trash and that's a fact jack.
SORRY ANDREW!!!!!!!!!! i still like you and your patch hound

Amen Tiffins. Read your other reply,Can you imagine me with 6 hounds runnin around my house with no maners at all?
As big as Gus is he would just stand at the table n lick the plates clean. an then not ask to be xcused.
I have 5 Patch hounds AND 2 labs in the house. Manners are a requirement. Here is a shot of 5 out of 6, the others were in utero yet in the middle hound in the photo. This is my mother in law feeding them all off of a fork.
Sage was whelped on St. Patrick's day and we found out Easter morning that we were indeed going to get him. It all went down hill from there. Patch hounds are like Lay's potato chips, you can't have just one!!
