Best dog you have ever seen..

Re: Best dog you have ever seen..
For males: Welch's Good Buddy and Sir Point Dexter both owned by hunters never trialed, and after seeing a few other FC's know these two 15" males would have had titles. But titles weren't important, the rabbit hunt with friends were. Both dogs drove with determination, and very rarely lost a rabbit.
I have to jog my memory for the females name, I beleive she was a daughter or grand daughter of Ausble River Schnapps, saw her a ten, was spectaculor. owned by Denny Hoover? of Birch Run.

Beagling is not a science, just an opinion!

The best I ever saw was a Cookies and Cream a little female directly out of Branko's Sky High. At 9 months she run with and out run the best of them or at least in my opinion. This was the pick of the litter, and wish I would have had a chance to bred her before Some one stole her at the age of 1yr.

I cant leave out . Breezy. Dennis Kennady. I judged her in little world and seen her at spring nationals. And she has been dominating
casts. and in both finals that she was in she flat out owned the casts.

Re: Best dog you have ever seen..
HB CH Hunts Creek Ben Watched him run in everything mother nature put out deep powder,-35 to +90 great jump dog, never a bark in the kennel, would tell on a pack running a deer. seen him foot traped on one leg still trying to run the track. Born snowhound
Ken Burbanks Eaton Brook rose of taralee (Rosie)
Snowhound Put her down and watch the hare run until you killed, did'nt have to check the weather
Fred Liddle Had many a great hound his fast sara bitch was a hound that just but the rabbit between her leggs and ran it. His Mr defrost hound could run in a dryed corn field and on snow. Seen many others of his Wabasso's run. No excuse hounds!
Mr Bill, Butlers Striker,Shaker.Greenbrier birch haven Merlin seen him in LPH and when Steve Corey Sent him at 10 to run Brace Cayuga Lake and won A line stralling SOB.
FC big bad Glades brown Nice hound truely a well rounded hound Won B&B,top hound,we ran many times always liked her.
FC Slicker's Base Hit Butch, He can run a rabbit Took him for two weeks put him to the test,Great running Hound most under bred over looked FC in PA. Gary slick has a good one there.
Most resent Years I'd Have to say FC Higher's Winston Cup When he locks on a Hare It's going to take one hell of a hound to beat him. One day deep snow watch him run a hare right at me the hare seen me doubled back 50-60yrds watch Winston Pick a double in powder,He hit the end on the track shut up turn open take right to the left turn and kept going. True FC.
Seen Alot more & blessed to have owned some.

Re: Best dog you have ever seen..
Stine Time Ivy
I have gunned over many of bealges in my day and been to a few trials here and there. Have run with HOF progressive pack champions to IFC AKC dogs. I have never seen a dog that could run every day all day no matter what the conditions. Dry, Wet, Snow, extreme cold, iced over snow it didn't matter to Ivy. She was a Hare hunters dream!! I will never forget the day we dropped the tailgate at -5 degrees with her and a little female I owned. The wind was blowing 15-20 MPH and her and this other little female went out there and cirlced a hare for three hours. Ivy was a once in a lifetime dog that unfortunately I didn't even own. A good friend owned her but often left us throw her in the box for a hunt if we needed her. She is up there in age now and I know her health has been down over the last few months. As for me Ivy is the dog that I use as a measuring stick. When I'm looking for a gund dog Ivy is the first dog I compare them to. She is definately not the norm in the beagling world but the exception. I have had a few decent ones but nothing that could ever run like Ivy has. Her nose power and brains to handle it are something that set her apart from almost every beagle I own. At 12" and that is being generous she has the heart of a lion and the grit of a grizzly. She also handled well enough that my 9 year old daughter at the time took her to her first trial up in the Thumb area beagle club and handled her all day long with know problems. See picture below she is the one my daughter has with her and exceptional beagle in my mind.

Geeze, Kenny you're getting old. The 50's? (LOL!)
Boy I just couldn't even venture to say on this one. Been so many good ones it would look like Wells' post.

1. FC Jenkin's Energizer Out of FC Northway Ninja and Jenkin's Pugsly. This dog was a true pleasure dog with outstanding hunt, desire and he handled like a dream. Ran with him several times and Kenny Jenkins didn't even use a lead with him.
2. FC Branko's Jackpot. Beat a class of 104 males at Jessamine county. If I remember correctly it took the Judges 3 days to sort thru all of them.
3. Blubanks Moon Pie Watched her go at Jessamine co also. Very impressive dog. She would have finished easily if she had been trialed more. Would have loved to own her.
4. FC Perries Comeon Katie. 13" female that could really rock and roll. I was glad when she finished so the rest of us would have a chance. Very nice dog. Was always going to get a pup out of her but It just didn't happen.
5. FC Thirty Ought Six Lulu I've ran with her several times in Trials and just running Dogs. Always in there giving it her best.
6. FC Eyer's Little Rosco. Seemed like he always made the winner's pack
7. FC Green Bay Wiley very fast and clean
8. Fc Branko's One Tuff Hombre i seen him just take over a pack and completly dominate. Very Fast.
9. Nat FC Maravic's Blueberry Only seen him go once but he put a real show on that day. Always on the line.
10. Burr Oak Boone. my Dad's dog that taught me to rabbit hunt back in the late 50's. Boone was solid Blue cap bred. he had two wins when he was stolen from our kennels.
When the tailgate drops, the B.S. stops!

Re: Best dog you have ever seen..
I am getting older. I could have listed a lot more like Wells Woods but if I had to limit it to just one I enjoyed running with Jenkins energizer as much as any of them. Not saying he was the best dog but he was right there and he was a real pleasure to run with. The dog's I listed were just ones that I had watched go in the Mid West , Large Pack and just running . I work for krogers and it's hard to get weekends off so I've only been to a couple of ARHA Trials so I'm sure I have missed out on some good Dogs there. Just not enough time to participate in everything. I did used to make some UKC hunts and there are some nice dogs there also. Maybe when I retire I can make more hunts. I would love to run with the Stars of ARHA. I guess I need to go to the world Hunt. I just enjoy running beagles. I did make it to some of the brace trials in the 60's and early 70's until they really slowed things down.
