Bad Coditions And Young Hounds

Post by Budd »

Whats everyone's opinions on training young dogs in less than ideal conditions day after day after day? I know some can't relate to why I can't weight for better days but where I live it's not a option. When my bobcat season ends on January 5th I start running beagles and do so till spring. I have been running almost daily and in that time I have had MAYBE two days that were what I consider almost good conditions. I have been running on one foot of almost a month old powder snow, then last weekend we got some ice then 3 inchs of powder on top, temps have ranged from -35 to 20 above with most days in the minuses. I have some young hounds that are really trying hard to start but when the old dogs can't move a track more than 50 yards am I hurting these young hounds???? Also I'm running snowshoe hare and these pups were bred to have COLDER noses, not saying they do but should have.

I believe that pups learn more bad habits than good when conditions are bad.
