Part II Mouthy Dogs
Try to keep this civil as possible, but lets name some dogs that have fooled you as a judge. We always hear the good and how dogs can walk on water. Lets hear some that would sink if you throwed them in the water . lol
I had a dog named Hoss that was a piece of junk, he would do nothing but side line the dogs while they were running a rabbit and as soon as they would lose the rabbit he would swing and swarp and some how find the check and usually have it, then when the dogs would get back in and take over the race back to the side he would go waiting for another screw up. Dog became a champion and was not worth feeding. I apologize to everyone for bringing that piece of junk to a field trial it was before I knew better and all I was in it for was winning.
Best ghost trailer I ever seen, I think the dogs name was Wild Cat Tracker , the guy that owned her has talked to me about her so I think it is safe posting her name. Seen her lead a pack of grands around for an hour with them not saying a word and you would thot she was best dog ever was, Dont know the judges names been to long ago but she won the round , I think she could have ran one in the wal mart parking lot that day. And notice she was in the grand class and i can promise you this was not the first day this happened.

Trent, I think that is why a lot of people want oversize dogs, so they won't sink when their mouth gets them in deep dodo. HaHa

Come on Jimmie and Paul, in all the trials you have been to , you mean to tell me you dont have a good story or two to tell. Its not always roses out there. lol
Maybe im the only one who had one that would sink if I threw it in the water

Re: Part II Mouthy Dogs
We used to have a male like that named Caesar. He won HOY at our club the first year we started trialing. The dog had a huge nose and not enough brains to go with it. Some times he had a rabbit and sometimes he didn't. When he did have the track he was hard to beat. He had excellant control and very good speed, I just couldn't handle all that extra mouth. We were newbies to trialing and were happy to be winning, but we finaly got tired of the extra mouth and other people started figuring him out too, so we would get dryholed alot. The dog never finished 2nd or 3rd in a cast. He either won or he minused out. We quit trialing him and sold him for way more than he was worth. It's hard to turn down big money for a dog like that. Caesar was bred by this guy and he wanted to breed him back into his line, don't ask me why. I've seen others that were the same way. Most of them seem to be owned by newbies, so I try to keep my mouth shut, but a mouthy dog like that can really screw a cast up. It's hard for the other dogs to focus on what they're doing when one dog makes it sound like he's gotta a hot track. They spend more time checking that mouthy dog then they do anything else. Usually a good dog will stop honoring that mouthy one, but by the time that has happened most of the cast is over.
Dry Creek Kennel-Bred to get it done where it counts the most "under the gun".

Trent,
Do you call this mouthy, say you have a dog in a trial. Lets say a few dogs in the pack and yours is burning up a track. Then there is another hound in the back, 30 yrds away from the rest of the pack and she's barking on the same track that the rest of the hounds are burning. Do you consider that being mouthy?? Seen it in a trial one day.
Just wanting an opinion.

Re: Part II Mouthy Dogs
Mouthy as defined by me--------------------------A hound that when cast has the ability to lead dogs into a situation as if he or she has jumped and or struck a rabbit and after a period of time can not produce and or run backwards and forwards.I personally do not endorse and or feed anything that will consistenly not stfu.In my world they will be a cull and treated as such .I also do not need and or endorse extra mouth.Dogs that are rattled mouthed as i call it are little to no use in my world and or my breeding program. And yes there are dogs in todays trials i personally would not haul home to kill.I hate a mouthy dog more than most, as i do not live where extra mouth is needed and or desired.Mouthy dogs should also be hauled in short buses as they seem to be "Run Forrest Run" type hounds. So when you and you know who you are get minused out at a trial, dont get mad----You know when ur dog aint right. And yes i see so many "breeders" today that personally should probaly ride the short bus with there dogs make more excuses, like I aint never seen that, Always hunts good, must of hit a hole and blah blah blah. So i suppose my thought is this why not load all the little retards on the bus and send em somewhere so they can all cut there hounds loose and run all day without ever seeing a rabbit and check each other to death. Can i get a amen?
For the record-------------I am not repeat am not calling out any one dog and or owner, this opinion is my own and i will endever any heat for my exploits.Bottom Line too many people bred for one reason-------$$$$$$$$$. Better the bred and leave the breeding to the few that have some sort of a grasp and or conseption.

Re: Part II Mouthy Dogs
How bout this.
A dog that gives a few barks as it is running towards a dog that just jumped a rabbit about 50yrds up in the brush. I call it happy barking. Barks cause another one of its pack mates just jumped one. I have two that will do this every once and awhile. specially if they sat in the kennel with out ran in a week or so and on the first couple bunnies of the morning.

MY DEFINITION OF A MOUTHY DOG IS ANYTIME IM IN THE FIELD AND THEY BARK AND NOT PRODUCE ALL OTHER BARKS BESIDES THAT ARE TO JUST HEAR THIER HEAD RATTLE IN MY OPINION IF THAT MOUTH OPENS THEY BETTER BE FIXIN TO RUN NO OTHER BARKING FOR ANY REASON WILL BE EXCEPTED.BUT IVE BEEN TOLD IM AM PICKY WHAT I RUN.
