Accidental breeding?

Accidental breeding?
Well I got home from work today and I instantly knew something wasnt right. Usually my dogs go nuts when they hear me scooping the food out of the bin. Today, I heard nothing. Walked out and found my female that is in heat in with my male. She is approx 4-5 days into her "cycle". She has never been bred nor has he had the chance to breed. What is the chance that they didnt breed? When is a female most fertile during her cycle? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

They usually wont stand until atlest the 8th day, ususlly a little later. You have a very good chance that she didnt get bred.
Good Luck.

If the female climbed in with the male and usually doesn't, there is a good chance she was ready to stand and is now bred.
Accidental pregnancies can be irritating , but still may produce good pups.
Good luck.

Re: Accidental breeding?
I keep them in the same above ground kennel with a fence divider in it. My male has been whining a bit lately. I actually was going to put him in with my other male in a totally different pen, just for my peice of mind. She must have found a weak spot in the fence and went into his side of the kennel. It hasnt been but a full day.

Re: Accidental breeding?
I have a little story about accidental breeding. This past weekend i had my dogs at a feild trail,in the champion class there was only 5 dogs so my male and female ran togather. My female had no signs of being in heat.To make a long story short my female won the hunt, and got bred by my male on the ride back to the club house.

I would be cautious of putting your 2 males together. 2 males in one pen with a female in season close by may spell disaster!

Yeh, you better put her in with the other male to avoid any fightsBradWV wrote:I would be cautious of putting your 2 males together. 2 males in one pen with a female in season close by may spell disaster!

Re: Accidental breeding?
Maybe you guys can help me with my situation. I have a female that came into heat and I seperated her from my males. When I thought her cycle was about over, I would let her out with the other dogs to see how the males reacted. They had stopped following her and trying to mount her. As a matter of fact, she has started to snap at them if they tried.
After the third day of them not trying to mount her at all, I thought the coast was clear. I took her on a hunt with me and there was no problem the first two days. The second night I heard some fighting going on in the trailer. I walked outside to see what was going on, and one of my males had her hung!
What do you think?

There are a couple reasons why I keep my males and females in totaly different sets of kennels. One reason is because of what MasonBeagles posted above and the number one reason I do that is because I thought I was told or I read it somewhere that AKC has a rule where your males and females can't have any contact whatsoever while kenneled. Meaning that not even there noses can touch. I have a set of kennels for males and one set of kennels for females.MasonsBeagles wrote:Pine Mt Chester bred Bruners Lynn through a chainlink fence.
