i love raising and training dogs as much as anyone... but when it is gunseason... its on!!! here in northern IL we barely get a 60 day season and i shoot or shoot at  every rabbit the dogs run. during an excellant season, we shoot 150 or so... and over the years i would put my average right about 100 per season over the dogs. none get wasted and get eaten as fast as the wife can fry them. this year, im a bit down on numbers... only at 39  with season ending jan. 8. partly due to keeping less dog power and partly due to me only getting out a couple times a week. the next 2 weeks i will try to get out as much as i can. but there are still guys around who try to "gun hunt" instead of just "running" dogs. to each their own, but i eat rabbits  .

Mobeagler,

Great pics! Now that is being the real hunter.JMO. Run to catch hounds. That is "ground power" as my dad would say! If the population of yotes ever explodes here
don't think I won't have a pack like you all have. Scarred up faces and all! That is how it was from the dawn of time. Man and game, NO GUNS! Again awesome hunts!!!!

I run alot and gun a little in comparison to how much time I spend in the woods. I honestly dont care for lots of pictures of a bunch of dead game posted on these forums, I understand and agree that these are hunting sites but I think alot of these pictures make us look like savages in the eyes of people who dont understand that we keep dogs for the love of the sport- not the kill (at least me). I like the video clips of chases and good dog work over stills of dead or dying game any day. Kurt Robinson

What are the dark brown/red dogs with the curl in their tail? Look like old July's or Triggs. What kind of mouths do they have?

We need those dogs here. Where are you?

I imagine you and your coyote dogs would be welcomed on anyones farm or chicken, cow, any livestock that has a problem with coyotes. The increase of the rabbit population due to your ridding an area of coyotes would be a bonus for all of us. Sure would increase your hunting areas by doing a favor from farmers. No need for a jackass in every pasture that will kill our beagles as well as coyotes.

Good hunting and success!

I was wondering the same thing. The big lemon dogs look like the July hounds around here. The dark ones look like July crosses of some kind.

I loved to kill rabbits as much as anyone, but the last few years i enjoy the chase just as much as the meat. The last few i killed recently were pretty tasty though. I guess i am getting soft or older. Joeys pic keep me entertained as much as anything. Maybe if i had more time or game? Who knows? Coyote dogs rock-----Kill Em All........... ;)

I like hunting just fine, but I look forward to the end of the season as much as the begining. I love spring running. We have some big days hunting and some below average ones as well. I don't measure success by how many rabbits we kill or jump, but how the dogs performed. Some of the most memorable races so far this year have been ones where the rabbit got away after a long chase. I can still hear and see the pack shaking the soy beans and the cut-over while the rabbit eluded the hounds and hunters for over an hour. What I try to remember are the young hounds taking the lead, picking up a loss or an old vetran starting a race and working a tough double. One of the things that I like about the dogs we run now is the silence when there is a loss then aroo aroo aroo there they go again. :D :D

i love to rabbit hunt! here in indiana our season goes from oct 1st to feb 15th i take about 3 rabbits a week and let the dogs run there hearts out. i dont post my kill pictures because i dont belive in that. now if it was a state record buck maybe. im not putting anyone down that does! to me it isnt how many you kill it is the time you spend with family and friends and watching those little hounds do there job.to each there own. mobeagle those are some good pics keep killin those yottes.
