Dog wont eat
My Brother-in-law has a pup that is 7 months old and he is getting down in his back end. they had him to the Vet and done x-rays , blood work and can't find anything. he is getting now so he won't eat. He will drink plenty of water. They have been trying to make him eat. have tried ham, hot dogs, meat balls.... anything they can think of. He will eat a few bites and that is is. Didn't know if anyone could shed some light on the subject. He is up to date on all shots... any help would be greatly appreciated..
Re: Dog wont eat
Is he walking around fine or running any? What was his temp. Is he running a fever?
you can try a shot of liquid B12 shoot it into his mouth that'll open his hunger. Ask the vet about it. Hope he is ok. Try another vet for a second opinion.

Re: Dog wont eat
He was walking and running..... but since he is not eating he is starting to get weak and wobble a little..... will give him a b 12 in the mouth this evening.... temp is fine, don't tnhink he ever had a temp.....He is doing his businees fine, (don't seem to have a problem with peeing) He has a Kennel mate and she is fine no problems at all... I just wander if a Horse has stepped on him or kicked him because my sister has horses. No broken bones thought. Vet said he acted like he was bruised some. sensitive to the touch in the hind quarters...Sorry for the rambling, just trying to get all the info I have to you guys....

Plenty of water and no food? Sounds like distemper. Shot or no shots a young dog often times even with shots hasnt built up enough immune system to gaurantee protection from distemper. I can tell you from experience that LIVER and EGGS is the best thing to try when a dog has distemper. Dont rule out things the shots were supposed to cover they arent 100%. Seen dogs die from parvo who've had all their shots.

Re: Dog wont eat
Not Distemper. dog will want water but won't drink, burnt up with fever, will make a wild coon act like a pet(but will still bite you non-the less-) Hound will get the shakes with distemper. Got a few bluetics through distemper in the 70's, they never made a hound. Was always said distemper ruined the powers of scenting in a hound.
Put Karo syrup in the drinking water, will keep him alive.

Re: Dog wont eat
I think he is impacted, E-rays showed nothing. we gave him an enema today at about 15Ml. we got water back(about 1/4 of what we put in) but it was as Black as could be. we done it again this afternoon and got the same thing. He seemed to fell better after we done it. gave a tsp. of Mineral Oil tonight. Going to see if he has a movement tonight. I think he got something that plugged him up.
Thanks for all the help, will update tomorrow

I think it sounds like he ate something inedible and is unable to pass it.
Has he chewed any metal or cloth?

Black stool = Bleeding internally. When it is high up in the digestive tract it is black and it is not a good sign.
From Field to Show and Show to Field the way it should be

Had a dog die from distemper last summer and drank tons of water. Took him to the vet and it was definately distemper. He would drink a ton of water but wouldnt eat. He never got mean but he did get the shakes.
