He put nose, control, and brains into his off spring. The dogs were a little hard to start but once they started it was like they have been running for a year. His best quality he reproduced was his checking ability. Alot of dogs out of that line would put out of the pack and turn on a check without losing a step and leave dogs swingin g to catch them. Alot of the dogs out of this line had excellant checking ability. I talked to Lyle Chamberland years ago about the lengendary brace in up state between dingus ma crae and andirondoc bobby, I guess several of the guys stayed around to watch. The two dogs cut down to a brace and were ran another two hours with several people watching. Bobby won. Would have loved to been there to see to of the most promident reproducers run the the beagle industry.
i heard this too.
but i was also told
bobbie was in his prime and dingus was older
and that there were two other brace's where dingus won.

they were both old yellow creek , fish creek bred
and i too would of like to see some of the old timers run.
no disrespect in-tended.
just more information.

Jim, Itchys sister ( Frosty Bawls) is in Clems pedigree fairly close is she not?
Anyway i know Beamer very well and he would want his Itchy Bawls recognized. :D :D

lol… Frosty Bawls is Clem’s Grand-Dam, she is the Dam of Clem’s sire ”Happyrun Potter’s Duke”. If you want to see a true run-down of some of these dogs, go to http://lanelinebeagles.zoomshare.com/4.html and scroll down to the last dog on the page.

I do want to make mention, the Dam of Dingus MacRae really does not get the attention that the Sire did, but his Dam “Int FC Cunningham's Annie” was a nice female and a reproducer, but she had a littermate brother “FC J-Wal of Roxline” that was a nice dog and was also a reproducer. Dingus MacRae came from two good reproducing dogs that were related, so the traits stuck. Much like Dingus MacRae and Anna’s Ann.

And if you want to see a picture of Happyrun Potters Duke, I'd tell you to look at the dog in Dan's avatar, but it's awful tiny. Here's a better one  :

I would have to say the one thing I have witnessed after 16 years of only owning Dingus bred hounds is that they have hunt, grit, and determination. Being fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to breed to dogs straight out of Dingus (Big shot & Pete) and continue the line by breeding to FC Chapmans Hunter all of the dogs hunt extremely hard. This is a trait that follows this line. In an early post someone claimed they were slow starters, I have never witnessed this.

Re: Dingus MacRae ? Question

Post by Laneline »

Well, he is a good dog. He turns 10 years old December 29th, 09. He is about 13 ¾, mostly Black & Tan {with a reddish tint} and he is a med/fast dog with good line. When he was healthy, he had great hunt. I had some problems with him after I got him. He was actually ill before I got him, but I thought I could “fix” him. His gums were always “white”, no matter how much I wormed him, he always had serious stool problems. There were days when he would do real well, and then other days where he didn’t feel like getting out of the dog box.

I took him to a vet and was told that he had enough pesticides in his system to take the life of 5 dogs. He said with the “type” of damage that he had, it appeared as if he was given something often “by accident” and possibly the previous owners thought they were doing the dog “good” by mis-using certain flea & tick products, powder or 7-Dust…etc… I don’t know how or why, I just know he was real sick, the damage was long term and the cost to bring him back to par was great. A friend of mine really liked and wanted him so I gave the dog to him when he retired. Two years later, two transfusions and over $1,200 to $1,400 spent on him, he is doing well. His lungs, liver and kidneys were slightly damaged, but now you can go over and he will jump straight up in the air 3 feet and will run around the yard like a pup with some life. He will now hunt extremely hard and run a rabbit very well, but just for an hour or so. He gets out of breath and his stamina is gone. I talked to the vet myself, and asked him if he could produce healthy pups. He stated that the fact that the dog was poisoned would not affect him producing healthy pups, it would only affect him. So he gave me the green-light.

As of late, I have had him back at my house because my friend is having some health issues. This spring I may attempt to breed him before he gets too old, simply because he is a good dog with extreme hunt when healthy and to preserve his “Dingus” linage. I am not sure with which female yet.
