Re: beagles
Same here. Most of my dogs look like they have been thru a war.more rabbit tracks and briars.
Re: beagles
I've got a few with some nice scars on their chest and ears tore up and my lil pup has a cut on her face one of my females tails is already starting to get raw at the tip. Thats the life of a rabbit dog.
Re: beagles
I keep a tube of Triple Antibiotic cream in the dog box so at the end of the hunt I can do any doctoring that may need to be done. I just coat the inside on the ear if needed.
Re: beagles
ISP Ointment will get them cleaned right up, that stuff is great for nicks and cuts

Re: beagles
Get you a spritzer bottle of Gentle Iodine (no alcohol), this will toughen them up and prevent any infection (they will be stained for awhile tho...).

Re: beagles
ill never forget the first time one of my beagles came back with a rip in his ear.. i thought he had cut a main artery the way it was bleeding. i just took a rag and wiped it off. i now keep some vasoline and triple anitbiotic cream in the dogbox incase they get a bad cut on them. those ears definitely put out the blood too.

Re: beagles
Bag Balm works great, it is thick enough to stay on and is also an antibiotic. However, it does little to toughen em up.

Re: beagles
After I get done running, I will put some Neosporin on their ears if they look really bad. Then after that dries will coat it with a little Bag Balm. My hound hates anything around his ears, guess he thinks it'll attract a mate. I don't understand what you're doing...
You want the ears like leather, not like a babies butt...
Don't soften them and make them more prone to more cuts...all you want is to dry them up and keep infection out...

Re: beagles
You may want to give them a few days off if they're that tired. Think of them like people. They need a little time for their muscles to heal or you will end up with an injury...

Sulfadine , put it on a sponge and keep the sponge in a ziplock bag . I keep mine in the top storage of my dog box when you load or unload dogs use it on all cuts and scraches tails too.
