Ohio Youth Hunt

Post by ironjawdawgs »

This was a solo youth hunt with my nephew Tysen that took place on 10/24/09. On this day the dogs jumped and circled each rabbit for him to harvest.

Same day, different dog from the pack. "Dusty" Prides littermate brother out of Buzzsaw and a Sampson Bitch.

Not sure what you mean. Do you mean you can't see the whole pictures? There should be four rabbits in the first two pictures and eight in the third and fourth picture with four young boys in it. I can see the whole pictures on my screen.

I've just got to add this. Elliot and his nephew has got to be the two most hardcore gun hunters i've ever met! I ran with elliot the other night he has them dogs in condition and they run a rabbit right out of there fur i thought my dogs were gonna drop over dead at the end of the night. You will be hard pressed to meet anyone who has more passion (obsession) with running dogs and he knows his dogs !!!!! Great Guy!

I run most all two year old dogs during youth season and much of the season for there own good. In my post I listed each dogs name shown in the picture. Ler Er Rips name is not listed. Answer your question? However, the one on the far left is out of Ripper and Lynn Perkins Lucy Lou dog out of Turbo and Bluebarry.

Good thanks joey for the kind words.

Man isn't nice to see a youngster get hooked? I can remember when myself and nephew started getting into it pretty hard. It's those days that I want to remember when things start getting frustrating when dealing with these darn gone hounds. And the part about us being hard-core gun hunters, well we enjoy putting fur in these young dogs mouth and watching them improve over the season. But I'm just a dumb ole redneck that just loves to sit out and listen to the music of hounds. Nothing special by any means. Just pure enjoyment Ohlinger. Glad we met and are able to enjoy this great sport together. It's a good clean sport to just kick back relax and enjoy good company. Wouldn't know from experience, but If I had to guess I'd say its way cheaper then paying for an over educated therapist somewhere.

Congrats kurtc! Keep those youngsters at it and hopfully they'll be less trouble to socioity in the future. What's your two young dogs out of and what pleases you most about them? It's nice to be able to enjoy what you feed regardless of what others may think. Again congrats and good luck for the rest of the season.

Can't speak for Ohlinger but I enjoy myself while I'm out running with him. We don't get too riled up but do have hounds of the same style and abilities which make it enjoyable to listen to and watch at times.

Thanks Jason for the compliment. Nice to hear you had a good time with your youngsters and Glad to see people "especially like yourself" doing there part and getting the future of the sport out and about. This day and age it seems it's a dying sport amongst the younger generation. Again thanks and keep these youngsters at it because our future heavily depends on them.
Thanks,
Elliott
P.S. Jason anytime you want to get together for that run you wanted to do let me know. I work Monday-Thursday 8:30am to 6:30pm. I'm off every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Let me know.

Very nice Elliott. I too, enjoy taking the youth out every chance I get. It is always something they will remember and as I get older, something that stays with me as well.

Ironjaw, The young female I am trying out is out of Leos Loko Go Crazy and Hilltop Show No Mercy. She is about 14 months and has tons of potential but we wore her out. The other is a male out of Doylands Jimmy and cant think of the other side, he has a great nose and speed but i just need him to settel down a bit. I see we are not that far from each other, we should get together and run some time.

Thanks Jim. Memories for me are things to live for. I think memories are what keeps me feeling like a kid most of the time.

Kurtc,
Sounds like you have some nice bred dogs that can get it done in most all conditions. I have found with my young hounds that putting all the tracks they can hanle under their nose brings them into their own quickly. I wouldn't worry about wearing her out. That only gives her character and I would imagine she would only comeback stronger each time you do that to her.
I like the top half of your male. I wouldn't mind having a nice solid female out of Doylands Jimmy to breed to a male I have named FTCH Awful Bawlin Let Er Rip. Rip lacks the shaker blood which always crossed well on John Monkmans Moneysunk Moutain Man who is Rips daddy. But like alot of other people right now money is tight and I'm just about overloaded with too many dogs.
As far as getting together to run sometime, I run every night after work. You are more than welcome to join me anytime you want. I would say it's about 45 min from Minerva, Oh to Uhrichsville, Oh. That’s where I have recently moved back to from Massillon. My phone number and contact information is on our website. Hope to hear from you.

Take care and good runnin to ya,
Elliott
