I just talked to a man the other night that says he has been breeding this strain of dog for over 25 years and his dad has been for 40 years. His kennel name is Black Creek and his dads is Black river. Seemed to be pretty honest fellow. He said his dogs are medium speed and run a tight line and he breeds for honest honest mouth. His phone number is 919-894-2793 and he is full of information about these hounds
Hope this helps

Where would we all be if the people before us would have just settled for a good dog.

the blackcreek we have had since 1960 are not slow in any form ,my dad got the first female and male out of Louisiana and this is what he started with then after about 5 years he crossed a yellowcreek male over the females he had raised of of the first pair he got in Louisiana ,these may not be the famous blackcreek that everyone talks about but the first pair were blackcreek amos and blackcreek maggie ,we now use robs diamond 2 blood mixed in and it has proven to be a good cross, here is a picture of a new litter they are blackcreek x robs diamond these bloodlines are producing dogs with a speed of about 6 to 7 with between the feet line control and very little mouth until the rabbit is jumped,2Image

They are very slow.I call em Trick or Treat hounds because so many are told when they Buy one they aint slow then after you put your time and dollars in one you got maybe a 4 on the speed scale...Crossed over Fast speed dog often you get some good stuff With added line control.BlackCreek dogs make great stylest but arent an effective type hound on swamp rabbits. :moon: :angel:Hunting dogs should be an evolving breed and the only way to really do that is outcrossing and selection.

I just recently got a Blackcreek female. There are a lot of the Blackcreek blood here in arkansas. As in anything you can take 10 blackcreek dogs from 10 diff. areas and get 10 different results. There is a guy in Little Rock Arkansas that strives to perfect the Blackcreek blood. His website is http://www.blackcreekbeagles.com/. Most of the Blackcreeks iv seen including mine run average of 6. They are full of hunt.

well come on down to the low grounds in nc Ricky Murphy and see for yourself how slow these blackcreek dogs are in the swamps where we run 65% of the time or better yet bring some of yours and we will have us a old time rabbit hunt and see who stays in the swamp the longest and pushes old mr canecutter out to the hill with these slow blackcreek dogs ,we will even let you ride in the argo 6wheeler to kill a few rabbits ,we aint in kansas toto we hunt cane briars and swamps there is no open fields down here ,be sure to bring life jackets for your dogs.have a nice day.

Black creek just toooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Sloooooooooooooooooooooooow.Put thats OK ,they bark alot ! :moon:
PS.They do come in multi speeds,Slow ,slower ,slowest and want pack,Slower and im in my own wourld.Along the gulf coast there in good numbers that are under medium speed, and they just make too many checks for there selves ,while mr canecutter escapes.Ahunting dog should pursue his game in a manner to overtake.Kinda like chase to catch type hounds that are very effective on swampers and other type rabbits....Also the game today has eveloved and is still evolving.A hunting dog should evolve also....A hound lineing up to smelling each others fanny whil ecasually moveing where the line might have gone is different to say the least...I like a hound with grit, one that goes animated an its every action is to overtake the game he is bred to hunt...There nothing wrong with breeding hounds for something other than hunting....JUST be honest about it,Show hounds, hunting hounds, line up stylest, self check,etc...plus al this talk about back when Noah was Landing the ark,,,Since this seems to be manys claim to fame ,have your vast amount of years breeding experence helped the Beagle as a hunting dog......Or is your program right back where you were when Noah Was Loading the ARK!...Another point about breeding beagles, you fellows that breed trail dogs have to breed to the trail format that you circuit your beagles in.In doing so be sure to ask your self if my dog pleases this judge will he be agressively pursueing game,,,Are is this judges likes leaning toward walking a perfect line.........Just food for thought-HUNTING DOG? ARE SOMETHING ELSE?

Ricky Murphy your talking in circles ,you need to get the check, straighten that line out and start moving the track, you are just standing in one place blowing holes in the ground,(probably like your dogs) so what about the invite ?come on down to the lowgrounds in NC and listen and watch some real rabbit dogs not peanut rollers that will bring you a rabbit to the gun about 8 out of 10 times you will probably like them so much you will want to take some home with you to show your buddies what real rabbit dogs are like
