Anyone Have a Diamond Deluxe Dog box here Or Owens

Post by Joeyman »

How do you like them?

I'm still on my search for a dog box. They have one that I like. Its 20" tall which will fit under my tonnue cover. Its 38" deep and 46" wide. No storage which I don't need storage. Diamond plate and insulated. Has T handle on the doors. The guy said its light and that I can probably pick it up myself if I had to.

Anyone here have a Diamond Deluxe box?

Mine is 38" wide, 20" tall, and 40" (I think) deep. I can load it by myself.

Only thing I don't like is the side vents will slide and rattle while you're driving if you don't have them all the way open or closed. It's not insulated as well as my last box.

I downgraded from a Houndsman Deluxe and miss the storage.

Suits its purpose.

I have 1 , it's about 10 yrs old, it's about the size your talking about & has top storage. I like it very well and is as good a box as I've seen. I bought it new , the only 2 things I didn't like about it is what the other guy said about the vents but that was a easy fix , drilled holes in the frame in 3 places , closed , half open & full open, top & bottom , took a piece of stainless tig wire & bent a " L " on 1 end and made a drop pin , works well also the doors opened to the the inside and they would sometime hang on each other , I drilled out the pop rievets and flipped then around & rerieveted them , problem solved. They have since reconfigured both the vent & doors & now work well . I can't pick mine up but it full of stuff but when empty it's no problem . I did made a " A " frame I can back under with a hand crank winch an if needed just winch it up & drive out , however I generally just slide it into my other truck if I need to pull the gooseneck trailer & thats not very often. From what I've seen Diamond Delux make a good box , I'll never need another ;)

I bought one a year or so ago. It's a pretty good box, but the vents do rattle along with the handles. I cured the handle rattle with some magnetic strips, but I haven't attempted anything on fixing the vents. The latches that hold down the top storage are going to require some attention. One side's not latching real well. Probably can fix it easily once I take the time to study it. All in all I like the design, but like everything there's ways they could have made it better. Of course, I've been called anal, and I probably am. I've been pondering taking a look at the Owens boxes. I've never seen one in person, but if they are as nice as they sound, I may get me one.

The handles rattled? You talking about the handles on the doors?

I don't think I could stand anything rattling back there.

I found a Owens #55007 about 80miles north of me in Illinois. I'm gonna have to drive up there and fit it in my truck see how it is.

$500 and I don't have to pay that $150 for shipping like I would if I were to order out of state

I'd still like to hear from OWENS dog box owners

Hey Joey,

I'm not talking about the handles on the doors rattling, I'm talking about the ones you pick it up with. When I ordered mine, I actually requested them to weld fixed handles on there because I knew the others would rattle. They said they couldn't do that (although they claim they'll make them the way you want them). I then told them just to leave the handles off, until I could see the new spring loaded ones. They "forgot" to do that and had already put the rattley ones on there. I had a custom box built for my Mule from "Woods and Water" that is perfect, but they apparently no longer want to build them like you want them. He was suppose to call me back with prices, but never did.

Owens 55030 and love it. I had a UWS (very very expensive & nice box) but the Owens is $200 less and I like it better. Would HIGHLY recommend Owens.
