Jim,

Thornie is all in. He emailed me and said he'd be there and is looking forward to seeing your hounds run and meeting you.
Thornie will put us in rabbits. He knows the area well.
Those who are planning on attending shoot me a PM or post up here.

This sounds like the best thing that could happen in beagleling in a long time. I would like to bring a dog to this and I imagine you will have a big turn out. I do have a question, will an out of stater (wv) have to have a ohio license? I think in wv you can get a permit for this kind of event. bernard mulinex 304 489 9462 - 304 481 4155

Bernard,
Below I copied some info from the ODNR website. I read it as if WV allows Ohio residents to run it will be OK for you to train/run in Ohio. It is sort of ambiguous, so I welcome additional clarification from others who are familiar with interstate dog training.
Looking forward to meeting you and I just talked to Jim today and sounds like we'll have great turn out.

Note: We will watch the weather and as long as it's not forecasted down pours with high winds, etc. we plan to have this event. If the weather would happen to get ugly, we'll reschedule. Too far to drive for some to be rained on all day. I will post well in advance if we reschedule.
In addition, looks like with the high interest in this event that all should limit the amount of hounds brought to two and bring clean running hounds...bring your two best.

Ed Kittle

Dog Training

ODNR Website:
The Division of Wildlife has established designated dog training areas on some of its wildlife areas. Dogs may not be trained or exercised on state public hunting areas from May 1 through August 31, except on these designated dog training areas. A nonresident may not train, work, or exercise a dog in Ohio at any time Ohio residents are not permitted to train, work, or exercise dogs in the nonresident’s state. Training dogs while pursing furbearing animals is permitted only from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Firearms may not be carried by persons training or working dogs during the closed season for furbearing animals. See information on Concealed Carry licenses.

Designated dog training areas are located on portions of the Auburn Marsh, Berlin, Caesar Creek, Delaware, Fallsville, Grand River, Highlandtown, Indian Creek, Killdeer Plains, Lake La Su An, Maumee State Forest, Oxbow, Resthaven, Rush Run, Spencer, and Woodbury wildlife areas.

I won't be able to make this one. Sounded great to me but I'll be taking a week to look at houses between March 30th and April 6th. Yeah I know it sounds crazy to be buying a house at these times but the prices are as low as they'll get.

Maybe you can make the next one. Lots of offers to hold the next one in WV, Ky. or Indiana. Figured we can move these get togethers around and do this a few times a year, minimum.

Thornie agreed to guide this hunt on April 4th.
Thornie knows this land well.
Should be a good time.

We will be meting at McDonalds in Coshocton, Ohio between 8:30 and 9:00AM, April 4th (Saturday).

McDonalds is located at:
101 Chestnut Street
Coshocton, OH 43812

When you come into Coshocton and cross the bridge Mickey D's will be on the right. Those direction were sent to me from Thornie and I will be coming from Zanesville so if you are coming in a different way the bridge reference may not be applicable. Go to http://www.mapquest.com for detailed directions.

If you are coming east on Rt. 16 here is the direction below. I'll be coming off Rt. 146 out of Zanesville onto Rt. 16. You can pick Rt. 16 up off I270 in Columbus, Ohio as well.

13: Merge onto OH-16 E.

14: Take the OH-541 ramp toward ROSCOE VILLAGE/COSHOCTON.

15: Keep RIGHT at the fork to go on OH-541/CHESTNUT ST.

16: End at 101 Chestnut St Coshocton, OH 43812-1130

Bernard,
You're in there like swim wear. For your travels...bring up to four dogs between you and your buddy.
Right now we have plenty ...but have room for more. The more dogs, the more we will run in classes. To answer a few PM's....no entry fees, just fun running old school style. Only rule is to don't treat it like a trial and leave your ego at home and come to have some great houndsman fellowship and measure the bloodlines for your individual interests.

Well my computer is back up and running. I've been running and checking out spots, so I don't make a fool of myself. I will be looking for more spots this week and until time of the hunt. I'm looking forward to this get together. Reminds me of the UKC and ARHA guys that use to get together on Thursday evenings. One evening we had a total of 22 dogs down, ran for 5 hours and never had a split. See you when you get here.

Guys, I would love to make this hunt but am unable to. I will be heading south at this time instead of north. I would like to offer to host the next one in KY. But we can talk about that on another date.
I do wish to put out one request, if any of you guys have video cameras please take them and interview the people that will be able to attend. Also tape the running and put some voice in it to tell me which hound is which. If you have a true old time houndsman there get some stories form him.
Thanks, Duane

I am really looking forward to this. A time to just sit back and listen to dogs run with no stop watches or score cards, just a bunch of beaglers having fun. I will be bringing my one male “Dingus” and my brother Joe is also coming and bringing his female “Roxie”. I talked to Mike Oszust {Alamo Creek}, and he is coming and bringing one of his dogs. Should be a great day. I would like to request for people to bring their pedigrees/pictures. I think it would be nice to sit around and talk bloodlines etc.. Also, it might be nice if somebody brought a nice camera and/or video camera. I think this would be a great event/story for any beagle magazine. I am sure there will be people from the AKC, UKC, ARHA and everyday backyard hardcore rabbit hunters. It will be nice to get to meet many of you for the first time and put some faces to the many names that I have heard of and taked to. I have not trialed much at all for a few years now, it will be good to see some of you again. You may want to bring you a chair, snack and a few drinks.

Unless your name is “Joe Lane”, you better pack you a full lunch. I don’t really care if all the other dogs blow “Dingus” clear out of the woods, I would just like some footage of Dingus putting a hurt on “Roxie”. I need one person to take a picture of the dogs as they come thru and another person take a picture of “Joe’s” face as the dogs come thru.  :bash:
