You have to start your training out slooooooooooowly. Put a little video on TV first and let them see how it is done.

I have to say that i found it hard to believe to, but i got 1 of Randy's Patch hounds and he keep telling me he would settle with age and he has. Don't know if all are the same but Randy told me true and he has done what he said he do.
But don't get in the track of the rabbit or he will take your legs from underneath you to stay with the trail.
Never seen a hound run with so much grit. No quit in him. He ran one day lame on 1 leg for 3 1/2 hrs, just keep jumping rabbit after rabbit. clouset was with me that day and seen him, and that was the same day he got in the line the rabbit ran and he got put on his behind when ol Hardrock took him out. hahaha.......
He is only the 2nd Patch i ever own so i don't know much about them so this is JMO from what i have seen with my hound.

I also agree that it settled in around his 3rd season. Being tightmouthed though, has never changed. He only barks when the rabbit is running. He will give a couple high pitched chirps just before the rabbit jumps.

Almost all of mine have started out rough as heck, and have smoothed out with age and experience.

I guess that you know our hounds better than we do!
I remember back in the 90's running one of my males in AKC, and guys telling me that they were surprised by him because they had always heard Patch were so rough.
But I suppose that was a figment of my imagination also!

The after running routine:
1. Ride home in the front of the truck on Dad's lap.
2. Tick check before coming in the house, clean up any blood.
3. A bite to eat and drink
4. Nap for a couple hours
5. Crawl up in Mom's lap for a brier removal session ( as much as an hour)
6. Ready to go again.
