Jacket Suggestions...

Post by Ohiohntr »

I am done searching the web looking for exactly what I want....Here is what I am looking for:

1. Briarproof
2. Insulated
3. Waterproof but breathable
4. Elastic waist and elastic arm cuffs
5. Not Bulky like the HyCreek or Dans Stuff - more like a Carhart chore jacket, no game bag
6. Transmitter holder
7. Hooded
8. Color not important

Every jacket that I have looked is the big bulky hunting coat, which I already have. I am looking for a lighter jacket just to run dogs in but I also want several pockets and preferably one designed for a shocking transmitter. The coats that I have found which are more like the chore jackets are usually not waterproof and only have two hand pockets that do not zip or anything.

Let me know if you have a jacket similar to what I am looking for and what the namebrand is on it....

I just received their magazine the other night....they have the jacket that I am looking for but it only has the two hand pockets. I may have to settle on that one because it is the closest thing to what I am looking for.

This may not work for you but it's what I do to try to accomplish what you seem to be trying to do. When I use to run the dogs all I did was chose the jacket that worked for that day, since I really didn't need pockets, they weren't a consideration for me. However, once I started using some of my beagles for search and rescue, I needed all kinds of pockets. I couldn't find a single jacket that accomplished all the things I needed. So, what I do is I still have the coat I want (Carhart, with hood) but I also have 2 different vests that I can put on over the top of it. One is a heavier vest for when I need it and the other is lightweight for the warmer months. Both have ample pockets so I can carry all of my gear. Many of them have the transmitter pocket. I find this combination really flexible because no matter what jacket I need for the temp, I always have the pockets w/ the vest. They're cheaper to replace and actually protect what ever coat you are wearing so it lasts longer.

I purchased a Nite- lite deluxe chore coat at Christmas, It was a piece of Junk.Wore it one day Hunting and the sleeves snagged and shredded. Sent it Back and ordered a Dans 403 ,Way Better coat for the same money. Nite-Lite Coats are made in China that should tell you something

HOLY CRAP and I thought I was picky!!!!  It's funny how us men think. We all know exactly what we want. I go shopping with my wife and she has to look at everything. Do you notice how they have to touch everything too? Weird!

I have found some that are close and I might have to settle....unless I have one custom made (been there, done that with my truck box). I might head towards some Amish made clothing places in the next few weeks and see what they have.

Thanks for the heads up on the Nite Light clothing.....the internet can be a great resource

And yes....I am picky....but only with my hunting gear and food.

Yes, it looked perfect for what i was wanting, But what a diapointment. When I called there service center I was told the Tough Bruch nylon was not Briar proof, i told the Man that I didnt Buy the Jacket to go to the Mall. They did take the jacket Back so for that i commend them. but i still lost 12.00 shipping and Handling. Snow dog bought a Dans just before christmas and his jacket is what i ordered, Had Dans in the Past and were not overly pleased with them. When It rained you got soaked but talking to Kevin at Dans he assured me the coat with the Waterproof liner will not Leak... We will see, I have a Wicks coat and I never got wet in it Ever
