sportmix dog food
Ive been feeding sportmix for awhile now. Had excellant results at first but lately the dogs have been losing wieght, and stool becoming soft and they dont seem to have as much hunt as they did. Just wondering if anyone else has been having this problem.

I feed the 26/18 in the blue bag. In my opinon it is the best you can buy. I run em 30-40 hrs per week and feed em 20 oz a day and they stay in great shape and have energy to spare.

No prob here, mine have plenty of energy, try and run at least 3 to 4 times a week and they are healthy as ever. I feed my pups it in puppy chow also. there fat as a bear. All have solid stool.
Best dog food i have used for the money.
I feed the black and yellow bag 24/20.

I don't run mine that much, but I agree that the blue bag does really well with my Striker male. His stools are good and not loose. He eats it really well.
Re: sportmix dog food
I have been feeding Sport Mix, black bag, 24/20, for 2 years. Don't run my dogs as much as some but they stay in good condition, good stools, energy enough. Price has been coming DOWN. Cost of fuel reflective, I presume. $21.43 per bag and I buy it by the pallet.

Re: sportmix dog food
I've read a number of these dog food threads over the past couple years and always - some people love the brand being discussed and some people think its no good. It hard to figure out how for one guy the food being discussed is the absolutely best money can buy and for the next guy all his hounds are losing weight and look like crap. And then one guy says no extra stoll and the other guy says way too much stoll, etc, etc.
All I can figure out is that most of these dog foods are made in a number of different plants and they often use ingredients that they can find for the best price (cheapest) and so the quality varies from plant to plant and in some cases from batch to batch. I think the bottom line is don't get too attached to a brand or image. Feed what the dogs do well on and if they stop doing good on it switch to something else.
I personally have fed Sportmix for about a year (blue bag typically) and my dogs seem to be doing well on it....for the time being.

Beaglers are different and so are their dogs.Briarhoppers wrote:I've read a number of these dog food threads over the past couple years and always - some people love the brand being discussed and some people think its no good. We never know how much they are feeding or what it takes to satisfy the dog or the owner. Some like to see their ribs showing and others want them so fat they waddle like a duck.

I agree, what works for one may not work for another.........Kinda like threads on Auto Manufacturers -- Seen alot of threads on many different forums over the last several years on trucks -- Seen alot of people who swear by Chevy -- Owned a few and drove a bunch of different ones for a company and I have never had any luck with them -- always something wrong with them.I've read a number of these dog food threads over the past couple years and always - some people love the brand being discussed and some people think its no good. I have 14 dogs -- they all do very well on SportMix.
Before SportMix, the forumla I had fed for years must have changed their forumula majorly as all dogs went to having loose stools and 3 dogs with food allergies (all at the same time). Switched to SportMix and no more problems or issues.
But even on SportMix, dogs crapping are different -- Have a Lab who only takes 1 dump a day while a coonhound 40lbs smaller than him takes 3 dumps a day............And the Lab eats more food, go figure. All depends on the individual dogs.

Re: sportmix dog food
I fed sport mix 24/20 for two years untill my dog started getting the same symptoms you are talking about.I changed food. Before this bag of food was gone my four year old male was dead! Dont know if it was the sport mix or not (BUT I DO KNOW) my brother bought a bag of 24/20 two weeks ago (IT SMELLED LIKE TURPINTINE THE DOGS WOULD NOT EAT IT.) He returned it and they opened another bag it to smelled of chemicals. He just got his money back . He stoped back in the store this week to see what sport mix said about the problem and the clerk said sportmix took all the food off the shelf and took it back.
