No, They either run yotes or rabbits never both. Less problems that way. After the 1st of the year I run hounds pretty much every day. I try to alternate between rabbits and yotes, but weather conditions and time really dictate what I'm going to run on any given day.

This is Rusty my main yote hound.

And this is Hammer, I'm going to turn him into a yote hound this year.

He's still a young dog but I think he's ready.

Redog1,
Do the yotes usually run in a circle and if so how big of circle do they make. How long does the race usually take before the yote is brought back to the gun? I talked to a guy the other day who said he had one yote race that went on for 11 hours but I have the feeling that is most likely on the exxtrene side. Has the yotes ever turned around and fought with your dogs and if so what was the outcome? This is a style of hunting that I have considered getting into for a few years. Do you ever start any dogs for others who are interested in the sport?

Keep posting them pics of the dead yotes. Awesome and I am fascinated with the pics.

Man, that's great! Were you running rabbits and the coyote messed with your hounds, or did the Patch dogs circle that yote? Beautiful dogs. :D

Pike Ridge, Sometimes the yote circles and sometimes it runs straight for 3 or 4 miles very rarely does it circle like a rabbit. As far as an 11 hr race, well it has happened. My wife used to get worried when I didn't get home by a certin time but now she knows that when the hounds are running a yote, I could be home in 4 hrs or 10 hrs one never knows. If the yote wants to fight well he had better bring his A game cause the Patch Hounds do.

BackAtIt, Those Patch dogs are used just for yotes and nothing else.

I really like that Hammer dog. He is a real houndy looking dog and I love the big heads and long ears on both your hounds. I have an eight and half month old female tri colored that has a big head with big houndy ears like yours. Nothing better in my opinion.
I have an 5 month old red and white pup that kind of looks marked similar to patch hounds but he has solid Northway on the bottom and Sexton's and Branko breeding on the top. First red pup I have owned and he is a nice acting little guy. He is starting to get bolder and bolder all the time.
Keep us posted on your future yote hunts and post more pics. :D
The guy I talked to about yotes is a real good guy by the name of Joe Moffit from Rochester, Ohio. He runs yotes with a single Walker hound and he told me he killed 47 yotes last year over him. I am hoping he gives me a call when he goes sometime this year. Sounds like a great time.

reddog1,
What weight & height are the Patch hounds you're using? Also, do you look for coyote tracks, do you drag the roads or do you drive around with the hounds tied to the box like a strike hound, or etc. ???
thanks, Stan

The hounds we use are 16-17 inches and they weigh around 30lbs. We usually look for tracks early in the morning and if we find a track we will then circle the section to see if the yote has crossed out anywhere. If he hasn't the we trurn loose on the track. If for some reason we don't find a track ( thant doesn't happen very often ) we will push a section that we have found yotes in the past. Once we have the yote jumped, We let the dogs run for awhile befor trying to kill the yote. Not every chase ends in a kill.

Chuck , Think I've seen the HAMMER male before !! He's made a good look'n hound hope he fulfills your wants for him whatever it is yote's or rabbit. Don't know anyone that has tried any of my pups on yotes but from all reports they do extreemely well on rabbit & hare with plenty of grit so I feel he will do well on whatever he's trained on ;-) .

Randy, good to hear from you and yes Hammer has become quite the dog. I have yet to see him back down from anything so I think he will make an excellant yote hound. If not, I know he will run raabbits. I hope things are going well for you.

Do you or do you know anyone who runs big females on yotes or is exclusively male beagles that are ran?

Nice looking hounds. I wish you would put together a video of these beagles on coyotes. I would love to see the action. There is a guy around me that hunts coyotes with beagles. He uses medium speed hounds and he mostly follows the dogs. They have killed quite a few coyotes posting gunners and letting the dogs do the work. He follows the dogs because his don't quite look like the gritty hounds you have. I am not sure if his beagles could withstand the fight. Again, nice hounds and keep after those yotes.
