Ivomec, Ivermax,Ivermectin

Post by ohlinger.s »

I've always heartwormed with ivermax 1/10 cc per 10lbs of body weight. This summer i've had two dogs go to the vet for a dermatitis problem the vet put them both on ivomec. Now i've done alittle online research it seems like to me like ivomec ivermax and ivermectin are just about the same thing. They are all supposed to target parasites in general some people claim they aren't supposed to be given to dogs but i'm assumeing since my veterinarian prescribed it to two of my dogs that it is safe for dogs. these dogs are on 1ml per 10lbs of body weight dosage for this dermatitis problem caused by a sort of microscopic skin mite. My question is if ivermax ivomec and ivermectin are for killing worms and external parasites how effective have some of you guys found these to be on fleas and ticks or worming etc....i'm just looking some first hand knowledge. I treat my dogs with frontline every 90 days and worm hooks and roundworms with d-worm bought just about anywhere and tape worm with happy jack tape wormer (which works geat in my opinion), but if these products ivermax ivermectin and ivomec are supposed to take care of the whole shabang in one medication why are'nt people bragging about the miracle cure all for parasites ???? I've heart wormed with ivermax for awhile but i've used frontline the whole time as well so if i quit treating with frontline is ivomec still going to deter or kill fleas and ticks ??? Sounds like it would be alot cheaper to just use ivermectin or ivomec for everything than to buy 5 different medications for 5 different types of parasites ??? does anyone have any first hand information or anything ?

Shawn, there has been a lot of posts on this before. I use it for mites in a dogs ears and for heartworms. Here is Branko's website on what they use. You will probably hear a lot of conflicts and also good replies. Maybe just them Thrity Ought Six dogs you have.

Shawn give me a call!!
I have lots of folks tell me that ivomec is good for all of em...
if this is So then WHY do they get worms if not Wormed regularly?
We have been treating for heart worm once a mo With 1/10 cc per 10 lbs for over 10 years now.
now we also heard that ivomec will get em All!!
I SAY BS not in that dose it wont and We will just not take the chance again Without regular Worming. With ivomec alone we had hook Round tapes ect. went back to regular Wormings and have had none Since then....
As far as getting Rid of fleas ticks ect NO it Wont...
I mean believe what ya want but IMHO those that Worm with ivomec Alone will have Worms!!!
Now the ivomec Will get rid of mange and mites but they are a different organism all together...
The only Sure way that you will probably ever know is to try it...
we Did!! and it DID NOT WORK FOR US.
We use pretty much the same program as listed and we are happy to say We have NEVER lost a pup or Adult Dog to Worms or desease have only ever had ONE dog with skin problems (after she came back from a training pen) and cured it with the ivomec.
We Use salmon or fish oils or buy a feed with good Omega 3 and omega six for healthy skin keeping the dogs and thier area clean is a MUST for healthy Skin and coats...weekly treating of the kennels with bleach and washing down at least every other day is also important unless above ground then once a week should be fine....

Been using Ivermectin for years for heartworm prevention, it works, 1/10 cc per 10lbs of body weight. It will not get Tapeworms in my dogs. Have used it for ear mites, it works. Have used it for mange, it works. For tapeworms I use panacur and drontol, 3 weeks apart, every 4 months, keeps them cleaned out, it works, also gets everything else. Ole Rabbit Hunter in Waddy Ky. turned me on to this.
