I've been looking thru the 2008 Rules and Regs and I don't see anything about not running / training dogs at night. I'm not saying this isn't true - just that I don't see it in there. Let me know if someone does read this....until then, I'll keep running dogs at night.

Well , I just downloaded the 08/09 hunting guide cause I was told that they arent out in stores yet here in East TN. On page 15 under dog traning : bird dogs , rabbit dogs , squirrel dogs & fox dog training is open year around on private property durning day-lite hours.
Dug out the 07 book & it says the same thing except the day-lite hour thing. I know lots of older fellers around here that don't gun hunt but just run beagles mostly at night. I don't think the lazy TWRA folks will be out looking for this unless someone calls in and complaines out it. I know I'll keep doing it in the summer heat months , and take my chances. It would be hard to prove that I turned loose in the evening (day-lite ) & had been trying to catch these hard headed Patch hounds since sunset ;-)

Red I'd check the rules & regs for the public land before I just ran there. Alot of WMA's don't even allow dog training.

Their shortsightedness maybe to narrow the excuses of poachers and make the game wardens job easier, but their action at making their job easier takes away from our Liberties of training our hounds on our private ground at our time of day choosing. I can't imagine not being able to let the pups loose at dusk to catch some of the best scenting of the day, and if I'd gone to the trouble & expense of fencing 40 acres to allow it, the more upset I'd be. Who hasn't had trouble catching their hounds before dark... :blackeye: ... and being a shift worker, I've always had the choice of running hounds after work, rather than sitting in the pub.
Fox hound training during the daylight :?: ... :bozo: ...Do they think we're English...

I'd be willing to bet that the change in the law had more to do with urban sprawl and the complaints night runing brings. You have all these people moving out to the country with know idea what to expect when they get there. And even those that do for one reason or another probobly don't much care to hear a pack of beagles in the middle of the night. The skeaky wheel gets the grease.

That's the only good thing I've heard about these high gas prices...the sprawlers are moving back to towns cause they don't want to pay for the gas of the commute...

I just spoke with TWRA and it is illegal to run rabbit dogs at night now in Tennessee. They said something about it being under hunting now instead of training.

If you get caught running at night, tell them you are fox hunting. It would be difficult to prove your intent.
Guys we need to get a petition and request that the rules be changed. I talked to friend who works for the WMA and that is the advice that he gave. Beaglers who belong to clubs could circulate a petition for their members to sign. Or bring it to the attention of beaglers who visit trials. Elections are a couple months away maybe we could talk to political candidates to try to get some relief.
