Has anyone used this feed?

Post by centraliamedic »

I have heard alot about flint river ranch dog feeds that can be delivered right to your door. They are all natural and baked, they claim great absorbtion of protein etc... and have heard great things from owners of house dogs. Just wondering if anyone knew anything about them.n Google flint river ranch.

I know a few people who feed it, and personally, I'm not impressed with the results/ingredients vs. the price. I don't want wheat in my dog's food (causes skin problems in some dogs and artificially raises the protein) and I am not going to pay that price for a diet high in wheat. They give their distributors a great deal on the food, but that's about it. I was not impressed by the condition of any of the dogs I've seen on it, to be honest. It's been a while since I looked at FRR's guaranteed analysis panel, but their foods were too low in protein for my taste - I belive their puppy formula was only 23%. It's a very well advertised, gimmicky food. There are MUCH better ones with high quality ingredients for half the price.

If you're looking for a food upgrade, and want to go for one of the holistic types, I've had great luck with HealthWise. It's a basic ingredient list & seems to be very easily digested. They make a 30/20 high energy formula which runs about $35 for 35lbs and is purely meat based. It's only 32% carbs, meaning the rest of the energy from the food comes from fat and protein. They also make a 25/15 maintenance feed (green bag) that I can get for $35 for 40#. Their website is: http://www.naturapet.com/brands/healthwise.asp

Another great feed I can get delivered for no additional cost is Blackwood. EXCELLENT feed! I'm using BlackWood 7000 right now for a bitch that went to pot on Purina ONE after nursing a litter and her coat is really coming back in nicely. They make several formulas from lower protein to a 26/18 formula to the 7000 formula which is 34/25. Another meat based, highly digestable feed. http://www.blackwoodpetfood.com
