double barrel front sling mount

I have a nice 20 gauge side by side, double; that I would like to be able to keep a sling on. I drilled and tapped the solder joint, I even bought the proper tap drill. It was a shop quality installation, the problem is that two tiny screws can't take the abuse my gun receives where I gun. My gracefulness probably doesn't help either. I would like to find a mount that wrapped around the barrel stopping at the rib. I haven't found anything close to what I'm looking for, and I really don't know how to fabricate one either. I probably should mention I that I'm looking for a steel mount. I'd appreciate any help I could get. Thanks Bob

Bob: If Uncle Mikes does not have it, you will probably need a custom modification by a gunsmith.

I am having the same problem. I have an old 12 guage that is heavy, beat up, and close to wore out. The only thing about this gun is I can hit almost anything I shoot at with it.

I currently have a leather sling that wraps around the barrel. I don't like it but it is the only way I can stand to carry this thing around all day.

bob here is a like to the Uncle Mike's part. It is probably the same as the one you already have. Are the screws just working loose, breaking, or stripping threads? I had trouble with a front sight screw working loose on a recoil barrel and ONE drop of super glue in the threads before torquing has done the trick for two seasons now! Hello Chuck, thanks for the work in finding that mount. It is exactly the mount I have. The problem was that the small screws ripped out of the solder joint. I used some pretty hi-grade locktight on the threads, but one could have possibly loosened resulting in the failure of the mount. I just feel that the screws are too small, and that solder joint is only about 1/16th of an inch. I don't believe there is enough meat to hold the forces generated by me on that mount. I have done a google search of double gun dealers and sent out some e-mails. If I have any success I'll be sure to post. Thanks, Bob

Bob, I think the fact that you have only 1/16" or so of material is the trouble. I've been using the Uncle Mike's mount on my old Fox for nearly 20 years now with no trouble whatsoever but the joint between barrels is solid, not hollow as some seem to be. Perhaps a good gunsmith can fill the void and retap? I manage a gunshop and have sent a few out for this installation and they have never failed to this point, but 1/16" is not enough to hold. What make and vintage gun is it?

I have a clamp on the barrel sling swivel from them that has worked good for over 25 years on Ithaca model 37.

Steve, it is a late model Fausti imported by Traditions. It is an Italian gun.
Don, I called Williams first and they only had the Uncle Mikes mount. I will try their catalouge. The best suggestion I've received so far has been to use an industrial aircraft epoxy to set the screws in. I've spoken with a gunsmith that solders mounts in, he told me that is the way they do it on expensive double rifles. The job would run between $200- $400, depending on the type of solder the barrels were soldered with originally. That price makes it a last option for me. Thanks again Bob
