Spring '08 Chesapeake Bay Trophy Rockfish season - PICS!!!

Post by coolbrze »

We did pretty good out on the Bay this spring, limited every day but one and we were on our way in by 1000 at the latest. My son caught his 3 biggest fish ever, the biggest being a nice 37" female full of roe (the pic is foggy b/c the camera lens got soaked). As he was reeling the 1st striper in, he says "Come to Papa!!!" My buddies were cracking up and that quote has now stuck!

On the big one he caught, he's got the belt on and she was a handfull. I'm telling him bring the rod up, now reel down, rod up, now reel down. Naturally, the biggest fish he catches is the furthest line out and after 5 min. of reeling I tell him she's getting tired, he goes "And so am I!" Again he left us laughing pretty good

Also shown are a 40" and 2 42"ers and the biggest I caught this season was a "skinny" 44"er shown in the last pic.

Wait until SB sees them, she will say that you doctored them to make the fish look bigger!!!

Nice pics and a great time fishing with the boy!

The best time for the big rockfish is January and February. Got a guy here that goes out to Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in a kayak and has caught 30 and 40 pounds.

that's how I got back into hunting got burned out on fishing.

Denny your right Lake Cumberland has some big ones.A hunting buddies brother caught one last year and had it mounted.I think it weighed in the high forties.Through the years bigger ones than that have been caught. If I am not mistaken 50 pounders have been caught...Looks like a great time.I love those pictures...
