Need Advice - Pups not packing

Post by Colorado_Beagler »

I have two young dogs (1 year olds) that have been hunted about 25 times. They are starting to run some, but neither will honor my old dog. When the old dog jumps, they look her way, but keep on searching for their own rabbit.

I call them and run to the old dog to get them in on the race. They will join in if I get them close enough. Then when there is a check and the old dog lines it out, the pups ignore her and continue to try to figure out where the rabbit went.

I have soloed the pups about 5 times each. On days when it is above freezing they can work through their checks and move the rabbit, but on days in the 20's they don't usually ever figure it out.

I would appreciate any advice from the pros. I don't want to do the wrong thing for these pups.

Thanks,
Larry

I did a search on Packing and got some very good info. I realize I should have done that first. You guys must get really tired of answering the same questions over and over. Sorry

This is a great site. Thanks for all the info.
