As a matter of fact, Fd Ch Patch, the original, was a tri-color.

Ch Patch was a very open marked tri, one black spot over the middle of his back and tan head.

I either read or dreamed this, but Ch Patch was the result of a accidental breeding. Back in those days train travel was better than by car if going any distance. I think Randall was going by train to run with Bill Gorman. On the way back, the hound Pathfinder got loose from his crate and bred Randall's bitch, and so was the beginning of the Patch strain of hounds.
I loved learning about the patch hounds, soaking anything I could find about them, why my wife thought I was nuts when I put her & the kids in the van and headed to North Creek NY.
Probably the only thing that kept me from a divorce was, she was always up for a vacation and if it took a trip to look at hounds to get one, that was as good a excuse as any... ... Many of our vacations were centered around stops to look at Patch hounds, that seems pretty sad now, but sadder still is when we're remembering a vacation the thing that she uses to bring it back to my mind is, what hounds we stopped to look at... :(

Can't really add anything somebody else hasn't already said but can't refuse to add my 2 cents on a Patch topic. I wasn't really a fan of the Patches my dad brought home about 10 years ago, preferred a more traditional dog I told him.( come on he was my dad there was no way I could agree with something he thought was right :bash: :bash: ) I held my ground for about a year and half, but after being afield with those Patches theres no denying of what a lifetime dedication to breeding by one man ( Willet Randall) and good crosses by many others has done to those dogs today. In my opinion one thing the Patches really have going for them is nobody ( that I am aware of anyway) has tried to breed them to suit trials, they have bred hard hunting gun dogs then take those dogs to trials, not breed trial dogs then try to gun hunt with them. You just know what you got when you have Patch, might not have a lot of titles from thier past, just a lot of great hard hunting dogs. I encourage anyone who may be interested in the Patches, just call or write someone you know who has a few and go see them afeild for yourself. You should find a very solid, fairly fast dog with few faults. Oh-yea and S.R. we here at Sandy Valley know what you mean about vacationing around our Patches, we see you on ours about every year.

Hey Justin!
Tell Pops hi.
Outages are over, put back some money for gas & dog food.
See you Oct., how many days left yet?
You breed Dozer & Amber, wanta do a pup trade? I like Dozer and Amber got ole Buckeye up close. I got lucy-lou and she got Casey as papaw & Buckshot as her daddy, like to keep all the brothers together in pedigree from Don's Buckeye Patch X SR Ivory Patch cross. Taz jumped fence off dogbox and they were in love when I found them, he never showed interest before. Wanted to do this cross but was gona give Taz another year under gun but they said no, now!... ...have to wait see if she took... :crossfingers: ...it was late in her heat.
