How many of you rabbit hunt

I though I would ask this question because 80 percent of the men that comes and run there dogs in my pens donot hunt.I am talking about hunting not three or four time a year.Putting meat on the table.I have notice these men have a different kind of beagle than i ve got. I rabbit hunt to put meat on the table.How about yall.

Im a rabbit hunter but I dont necessarily do it to put meat on the table.

We shoot rabbits but I mostly enjoy running the dogs and hunting with friends.

I guess i get to graduate to running dogs because i got a shooter now.

A hound isn't a complete hound unless hunted over
need to get a rabbit in their mouth and hear the gun go off
too many so called "houndmen" dont hunt at all just a game with them
all about Trials and competition which isn't all bad but the hound is supposed to be a gun dog FIRST AND FOREMOST in my opinion
Competition should be secondary abeit an important way to let us see what is out there if we are looking to use something in our programs for one reason or another

Good post !
For me its the Hunt and the Music of the hounds.
Forty plus years ago when I had beagles it was the same.
Then I was a young kid, bareley in my teens now 54
but the thrill of the hounds is just as exciting as it ever was.
Nothing wrong with a feller having bragging rights to his hounds.
Hunting my hounds is where Im happy and know my hounds are happy.
I guess to each his own and there aint nothing wrong with field trails
but at the end of a hunt im content to sit down to a big plate of fried
rabbit ,biscuts and gravy and a cup a coffee.
Thank the Lord for the hunt and Beagles
And remenis about the day spent in Gods Country listening to the Music of the dogs

is that a big 12 gauge you got there
thats not fair to the rabbit
no one can hunt with us with anything bigger than 410 ga
makes for a lot more fun and less shot to eat

I know some boys in GA.
410's is all they use too .
Call themselves the 410 coalition " The Daddy Rabbit Gang "
Some are choped down with a hand gun grips, and they do purty good
bustin bunny's. Got a 410 of my own but aint cuttin her down LOL.
Used to use a 22 but my reflexes aint what they used to be anymore on bunny's
I'll still bump all the squrilles out of the trees or all you care to eat with
my 22. Its called fair chase huntin LOL

I only hunt my dogs but here lately I've been thinking about getting into the field trials. As far as the 12 ga. goes I've hunted with both the 12 and 20 on rabbits. I can't tell much difference either is more than enough when it comes to killing rabbits. But I can tell a difference at the end of the day when I carry the 12 ga. I'm looking at a Browning 16 ga pump that is made on a 20 ga. frame to carry this next season. I already have a 410 so I might give that a try as well. I guess I got off subject but yes I hunt and think ALL beagles should be gunned over.

Gun hunter first, pleasure runner year around, limited field trialing but plan to get more involved in 2008.

I agree, for a hound to be complete he needs to be gun broke and get some fur in his mouth. Makes for a better hound in my opinion.

if your dogs dont get that blood in there mouth. why would they run with the intent to catch . i shoot and feed the rabbits to my dogs,and they will all watch me cleen them an cookum up. i alway try to do this with young dogs so that they know what they are running for. the olny bad thing is they might rip it up sometimes

I love to hunt, but now 4 of us hunt and when we have no one that wants one to eat we just let the dogs run......

John , just in case you didn't know those were Kentucky rabbits .
They'de probably chase off your dogs and throw rocks at you guys
with the 410's . I actually only like to kill a few and took a .22
snub nosed revolver during the end of season . I normally stay
close to my ride , if one of those bunnies comes at me I can make
a quick get away . I doubt any rabbits were harmed during
the .22 footage .

gun hunt duing season run the rest of the year whenever possible only go to 1trial a year.
