Re: Rabbit Feeders
If you are not feeding tame rabbits, I would use a normal wildlife feeder with whole kernel corn.
That is what I use at the house and have seen up to 6 rabbits sitting around it.
I used a 4" PVC pipe with an upside down V notch cut into it and a metal paint lid wired to the bottom. I put a small coffee can over the top.
The down side to the pipe feeders is that all critters will clean them out quickly (deer and coon).
I now use one of those bucket feeders with a timer broadcaster on the bottom. I have it hanging on a limb out in the brush to give the rabbits cover while they eat. I have it set to broadcast about 2 handfuls of whole kernel corn twice a day. It keeps them around and healthy.
For some reason the rabbits don't seem to like cracked corn as much as whole kernel.

Re: Rabbit Feeders
someone posted a picture a couple months ago on one of the boards so I tried it and it worked real good, hears how you make it you take a 4 inch PVC pipe cut it about 5 feet long put a 90 degree elbow on it then you take a 2 foot pice of pvc pipe and cut it in half so its only half round and you conect it to the 5 foot piece so it makes a L then you put a cap on both ends. you then wire the 5 foot pice to a tree or fence post and over the 2 foot piece that is made into a trough you take a 55 gal. plastic barrel thats cut in half length wise with a hole on each end so one side will fit over the pvc pipe and the other side a hole big enough for a rabbit to go through. you can put a salt block under the barrel to if you like. This works good and protects the rabbit from predators while it eats, hope this helps

I would have at least 2 escape holes in it for the rabbits. If a snake enters the only entrance hole (as descirbed above) the rabbit has no way to escape. Additional holes would give it more chances of escaping. Otherwise a great idea.T Hynes wrote:someone posted a picture a couple months ago on one of the boards so I tried it and it worked real good, hears how you make it you take a 4 inch PVC pipe cut it about 5 feet long put a 90 degree elbow on it then you take a 2 foot pice of pvc pipe and cut it in half so its only half round and you conect it to the 5 foot piece so it makes a L then you put a cap on both ends. you then wire the 5 foot pice to a tree or fence post and over the 2 foot piece that is made into a trough you take a 55 gal. plastic barrel thats cut in half length wise with a hole on each end so one side will fit over the pvc pipe and the other side a hole big enough for a rabbit to go through. you can put a salt block under the barrel to if you like. Re: Rabbit Feeders
If you click on the link at the bottom of my post to our website, you can see some pics of the feeders we use in our rabbit pen. Click on the tab for rabbit pen and scroll down to see them. We also have and old 3ft high trough feeder with a roof that we keep stocked with whole corn for the deer. As a plus the squirrels keep the corn scattered about on the ground and we often find rabbits dining on that underneath the feeder. We will often times go and scatter some about ourselves while working with dogs in the pen just to assure the rabbits are getting some. In addition to the feeders, we also use regular poultry watering stations through out the pen to make sure they can get some water as well.
Re: Rabbit Feeders
we made several just cut a 4 or 6 in pvc pipe about 4 ft long then put a tee on bottom then put 2 ft pieces into the tee on both ends fill from top buy a cap to keep moisture out chalk it good at connections ya can make one ion about 10 min ours work great we put whole corn in some n rabbit pellets in some just mixed it up they will sure stay around try to set the feeders in thick cover or a preadtor will slip up or swoop down n grab them while their eating jb we used the 4 in but i bet the 6 in would be better as they could get in the ends with no problems

Re: Rabbit Feeders
Here are the pics of the rabbit feeders that I have in my pen. I can take some pics of then without the snow if you would like.

Oh yea, they work better if you get them off the ground. I put mine on a pallet.
