Day 61 and still no puppies. Maybe they will be easter pups. I have been taking her temp everyday, it is 99.8 normally most recently it was 99.6. What is the average number of days for you all that have bread beagles, i have heard everything from 56 to 68. I know it all varies.

When her temp drops a full degree or more from the averages you have been getting she will be going into labor within 24 hours. 63 days is normal.

She'll often stop eating when it gets close also. ;)

When the labor starts, she will become restless trying to go to bathroom often, most of mine dig in the box(nesting instinct) like their trying to dig through the plywood. They start laying down panting, then get up and try to go to bathroom again, may throw up food they've eatten that day.
If temp has stayed below 98F today, I'll bet you have puppies in the morning... ;)
Best-o-luck... :D

day 65, she finially had them. She had only 4 and one died immediatly. It came out turned purple around its face and died, never made a sound or moved. The other 3 are very lively especially the one female. They all look to be redtick like the stud. I wish she would have had more as there was several people that wanted one and i wanted to keep 2 females.
Is it normal for a dogs first litter to be small.

Congrats on the litter

yeah it's normal to have a smaller litter for their first time. My female had 4 and 1 died also.

It's much easier to look after 3 any way.

My bitch threw 9 at 1.5 years old and 12 at 3.5 years old. It all depends on genetics, size of the bitch, and fertility of both parents.
The pup that died...did you make sure the sac was removed from it's face immediately? Pups will die soon if mom don't get the sack off pretty quick. I am always there to help if mom gets busy with the others.

Anyways, Condradsulations! Hope they turn out wonderful. :D

i think that is what happened to it. I was there but i didnt help as she was removing the sack herself, but was having trouble. I did end up removing it ,but its face was allready purple. I hate to learn a lesson like that, but now i know to immediatly get the sack off them if the mother is having a hard time. Ignorance on my part.

Don't be too hard on yourself. It may have of had other complications, who knows for sure. I will tear the sack away from the face then let mom remove the rest if she gets agitated with me helping. When Belle had her recent litter she dropped two at once and that is the only one I had to help with.

Its best to quit counting days and worrying. Puppies are 63 days from the time of conception not from the day of mating. Its possible that they can come early or late if you go by the date you mated the dogs. Conception takes place without us really knowing so, we just wait. With a first time bitch I would encourage everyone to try to be with them during whelping as they are learning too. You have 3 beautiful puppies though and that will do ;-)

best of luck!
