A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
Just joined the site, it looks really interesting and alot of good info. I'm from Virginia and we have a pack of 8 beagle, bassett, blueticks (all in one) and have 3 new arrivals a month old today thought I would share pictures. We deer hunt with are dogs and they burn it up!
Fine looking pups! Good to see someone here that has made crosses to get what he likes in hounds. Curious, do they run rabbits, or do you discourage them from it so they will run deer? Also, what about running them on fox or coyote? What kind of stamina do they have, and what part of the basset comes out in them?"

Thanks Ramey, I wish we could take credit but a friend of ours gave us our 1st 4 and thats what they were. Will they chase rabbits? NO!! We spend time training them on deer scents and live deer, rabbits sit right outside there pin and they dont even bark but let a deer walk across the field and they start singing there song! They don't chase fox and we don't have coyotes yet but they will chase Turkeys! As far as stamina, thats the thing we love the most about them, we hunt only on public land and during shotgun season we are not allowed to kill does, only bucks, our dogs will only run a doe for a short time and we can call them right back and jump another deer, now a buck they will run much harder and longer and won't give up till they lose it, some days we can do 10 runs a day. Our dogs because of the Bassett have longer bodies, ears, and some have feet pointed out like Bassett. Here are some more pictures.
