Bells??

Everyday it seems that someone has a horrifying story about a pack of coyotes either killing or attacking dogs. A man told me that if u use bells u will never see a coyote? I have been using a bell for the last couple of years and have never "knock on wood" seen a one while rabbit hunting.. Is there anything to this or have i just got lucky????

I normally don't use bells for daytime hunting, but i use them exclusively during spring and summer for NIGHT running, i wouldn't go without them. I can't say for sure whether they keep the coyotes off or not, but i have yet to have anything bother my beagles after 2 years of extensive night running. It sure won't hurt anything.

my dogs wear a bell the year around only time they come off ios if a female is having pups a couple years ago me n another guy was running one evening we had p;robally 6 or 8 dogs running it was already dark heard a comoting like a dog fight all dogs come in but 2 heard the yotes howling right out there where our dogs were running i just knew that was the end of 2 of my dogs we kept calling n going in their direction eventually one came in n she was cut to shreds gashs all over her back n hips sthyen in the oppsite direction the other one came slipping in towards us she was scared to death just trembling all over she was cut up bad too deep gashes all over her the other dogs just stayed at our feet after that so the bells didnt keep those yotes away i still run bells mostly as a way to know where my dogs are at they might help keeps yotes away a lil who knows

im an all out nite runner and take it from experience, the bells and flashing collars dont stop the yotes. i have nite run for over 20 yrs. and have had 6 females cut up in the last several yrs. All have been female beagles and none males( curious if the attacker was female yotes)
Always the fang marks were in the neck area or the hind flank areas, yotes tend to try to hamstring or cripple a dog. i run males and females together but never had a male attacked yet.
Bells and lighted collars may help some. but imo the yotes are watching you and your dogs and get used to sounds and collars.
i emptied my pistol twice one night before i broke up the fight and come morning i couldnt find one of my males and females, i kept looking and calling and finally went out of the field into the woods, on a long point that was full of cliffs, i heard some whining and the female was back in a hollow log and the male was at the end as if he was guarding her.
The male was not harmed but when i got the female out she had fang holes in the flanks and one in the neck. lucky shes ok.
