It just doesn’t seem like things change over time!!!. I remember when my father was heavily into field trials, and his pursuit to attain Field Champion status for his dogs during the 1950’s and 1960’s in the St. Louis area. He as well as the other beaglers complained about favoritism by the judges, improper judging, etc.etc.etc. In effect he spent thousands of dollars in his pursuit of his Field Champions.

It seems like the same problems of cheating and allegations of improprieties continue. I understand the driving force behind the whole best dog concept-sire fees, high dollar pups, etc. But it just seems like such a rat race!! I guess I am happy just to have a good dog.

Emery, by the way, I used to hunt a lot around the Owensville area. My father had a place along the Bourbouse river, and I spent many years hunting everything from rabbits, squirrel, deer, turkey and quail in that river bottom and surrounding hills. Haven’t been there for several years, but recall the hunting was pretty good and the people were pretty decent. The farmers were more than willing to let you hunt, particularly if you helped them out, of offered them some of the game taken.

Anytime you get back here, just look me up. I am real new to the area, so I haven't gotten into the "good" places to run dogs yet, but I am trying. I have had some help from Yellowdog, he has showed me a couple places to run and I have also met a few other beaglers in the area. (They aren't so willing to volunteer their good habitat. :D )
