People can say buy american, foreign parts are expensive, and whatever else. At the end of the day it's your hard earned money that's paying for a truck, you should get whatever will be the best for you. I have a Toyota in my driveway right now that still looks new, has 295,000 miles, and all I've done to it is change the oil, and put tires and brakes(once) on it. Everything else is original. It goes down the road quite, and doesn't burn a drop of oil. When chevy, or ford can make a vehicle that will consistently last like Toyota does, maybe I'll buy another one.

i ahve traded for several dodge trucks with 5 and 600,000 on them...thats right it aint a typo...so i think i can make that statement...got one in my shop now with 549,789 ...getting an oil change drives like its got 20k ....and he has a "proud to be an american sticker " on the back....

That is pretty impressive for a gas motor, if it's still original motor and trans. I am speaking from my own experience with vehicles, and buying a Toyota doesn't mean I'm not proud to be american. I think if everyone looked around their house you'd find a lot of things that are made overseas.

Get the Toyota. It is probably made in Ohio. I bought a new Chevy in 2006. Paid over $30K and it is a piece of crap. The tires are AmeriTrac by General tire. Had my first flat at 120 miles. Took it to the dealer and was told they would fix it for $30, that tires were an option with the truck. Hugh, with my Ford, I had a flat at 10K miles and they replaced the tire no questions asked. I have had to replaced all the tires with used ones by 22000 miles. One tire was fixed over senven times and just went to pieces. The spare blew a big hole in it on a brand new road with less than a 1000 miles on it. Chevy will put Firestones on it for $275 plus $100 for calibrating the speedometer. Still that is almost $400 I don't have. I have had 28 flats in a year with nothing found like nails or stuff. The tires separate at the thread. I took the truck back several times for the mirrors coming loose. Not the housing, the glass itself. I was told by Chevy that it was because I had an aftermarket bug shield on the front. The truck came with it on. I was told that unless I put the $400 Chevy made shield that it would keep happening and they weren't going to be covered the mirrors. Now come on, how many of us buy a pickup, go to Walmart, buy the bugshield and put it on and drive for God knows how far and it doesn't affect the mirrors. This is my 15th Chevy I have owned. My transmission whines (worse thatn my kids) and they can't figure it out. I love my truck, but these problems are maddening. The doors don't close right, you have to slam them hard. I have a friend bought the new Tundra with the high HP engine, and it is all decked out and he loves it. He got three years of free oil changes when he bought it. I carry my precious beagles in my Chevy and we don't go far since I need tires. I have always been a Chevy fan, buy American and all that, but now the Chevy is made in Mexico or Canada and the Toyota is made here. We just send the money to Japan. In my opinion, get the Toyota, our money is too tight to be wasted.

Beaglemomma,
With out a argument. Gm does not nor has ever stood behind there tires . General makes them they are the rep to talk to or the dealer. Gm bugshields are 70.00 to buy and 20.00 to install.
Your trans noise is probaly backing plates on the rear brakes and or a input shaft in the trans.
If your gm dealer is jacking ya, go to another dealer. I have been in service for gm-dodge for several years and they are very strong products with extreme warrenties......... If you should decide to buy toyota my buddie works at a dealer , they are open 24-7. So maybe they got there own issues
When the moment of truth arrives, the point of preparation has passed.

I own a 2004 Chevy Z71 4X4 and i love it. Toyota makes a nice truck but the cabs are small or at least used to be. I like a big cab personally.

I have a 2004 chevy ,it ride better than a toyota.i know because i have owned both.the toyoya was 89 model with a 22r motor and had 289xxx miles on it when i sold it.they are good trucks, gas mileage was not as good as the full size chevy that i own now.chevy has a v 6 motor,(the big 6)5 speed tranmission.8' bed, 16" tires,air,etc.... 36 gal tank, 880 per tank. that is 24.4 mpg.that is city.have not had it on a trip.i think that is very good for a full size truck.

As a working man I am all about getting the best quality for my money. I bought american in the past, both Ford(Capri) piece of junk, and a Chevy Blazer(replaced transmission at 45K) and nickle and dimed me to death after it hit 100,000 miles. I now own a nissan titan, 130K miles replaced brake pads twice and one tune up. You do the math. It's all about product quality for me, I will not buy just to buy, my money is too hard to come by. The bottom line is make a quality product and people will buy it. People aren't buying nissan's and toyotas because they are foreign dealers, they are buying them because of thier quality. There is a Toyota plant right down the street from me, and they employ a whole lot of americans, I am more concerned with money getting to the working man, versus which company ends up getting richer. Politicians and Big business sold out to foreigners long ago to increase profit margin. If a big company can do it somewhere cheaper they will and they will not give a rats a-- about the working man. Get the best value for your buck.

I'm thinking Toyota bought the 318 Dodge engine ??? If so there's your answer .
