It's to the point, with the price of gasoline added. that I am skeptical of driving to breed to a top stud dog. I read stud advertisement and they talk about hunt. You breed a brush busting bitch and most of the pups hunt the trails with their nose to the ground.

The AKC rule book says a dog must hunt. The judges will pick a dog up for running three feet off a line,(skirting) but won't pick one up that won't get within ten feet of a briar patch. And they call them gundog trials.

I guess you call this honest but still ask a a@@ pocket full of mony.

to me this is diffrent. i really dont like a 13 inch hound, i dont mind a cold trailer as long as they produce. also hunt is huge, there is a diffrence in hunt between guys. i like a hound to stay busy, some guys want a hound to hunt around them. some guys dont mind jumping a rabbit for there hounds.lol

but if a guy says it dont have enough hunt, cold trails alittle, or isnt big enough. atleast he is putting it out there. it then would fall on to u, if u think he will make it at your house.

I know some like dogs that lead the pack. Others won't tolerate a hound that leads the pack. Some like cold trailers, to some it's an abomination. To me it's about production. If a dog can consistently jump and bring a rabbit back in an efficient manner then he has a home. If he starts babbling and doesn't produce a rabbit, or he is off the line more than he is on it and continually cause breakdowns by barking over the end it makes my blood pressure rise.

That is the reason that when a local guy asks about a beagle, if I have one for sale, I tell him to take the dog and run as much as he likes for a couple of weeks, if he hasn't made up his mind call and let me know and he can run it longer.

Seems to me like a pretty negative way to go through life Bill. I actually enjoy most of the guys posts and if they do want to talk about their hound a little bit, fine with me. All of us are a little kennel blind Bill, even you. I for one am not going to cast a shadow over all the guys on this site because a few brag a little or and even fewer lot have sold dogs that were less than what they say to make a buck. I feel comfotable that most of the guys on this site are decent guys, proud of their hounds.

I get a little tired of guys just trying to hand out a lot of BS. Since you are so honest and perfect I will say a prayer so that your wings are delivered tonight. Actually though being judgemental is pretty much against what the good book teaches too.

It does seem that there is more "Dog Jockey's" than ever before...guys want to make a quick buck on a dog. Times are hard and things will probably get worse. If the guy selling the dog won't let you see it in the field..chances are it is a dud. Everydog I sell I let them see it in the field all they want. I tell them don't take my word for it..lets go watch him and see how he does. They can make thier own opinion of the dog. What I like might not be what you like. You are right...different guys see hunt differently. I thought i knew what hunt was till i came across ol Rocky(god rest his soul). Now it is really hard for me to be satified with a dogs hunt. I have sold dogs and guys say they are the best thing since sliced bread. I dont' see it..because I have seen the way it should be done. Not preeching or saying he was better than this or that..but when you see a hound do it right it clears up alot for you. Sight cues the blind sorta. A buddy of mine says it is like race cars. A guy that has been in a Vette thinks it is the fastest on the planet...till they ride in a Top Fuel dragster then it warps thier mind. I may never have another like Rocky. You hold on to those.
Never put your hard earned money into a hound if they won't let you see what it can do. Check it out for yourself. There is still good honest people out there.
I thought about seeing if they could add a buyers feedback to the profile's here. Ebay has something like that. If you screw someone over it would show up on thier profile..just a thought.

I wouldn't breed to something that I didn't run and hunt.
I am not a breeder, but am looking at prospects for a gip I've got.
People have different ideas on what hunt, speed, line, mouth, and conformation.

I want to put eyes on the dog doing what it is bred and trained to do.
I have seen many nice hounds, but I'm not going to breed my dog to because it is not what I'm looking for.

Talk is cheap, let me spend a day in the woods with them and I'll make up my mind.

You got that right.
All the good ones are dead.

I've owned, and still own, some decent dogs.
They aren't anything special and I will tell you their every fault before I tell you their strong points.

Yep, I went squrriel hunting yesterday and shot up into a nest and killed a eight pound catfish--- I dont breed, run trials, or have hounds with papers , sometimes even the best dogs can have a bad day, mine are what they are grade gun dogs , I dont have to kick them out of the road to hunt, they can circle a rabbit to the gun after they jump it, they handle easy, come when called 99% of the time, and have bad days when conditions are bad that make them look almost dumb, but they dont stop hunting, every once in awhile they forget what it feels like to be shocked so they bump a deer. when they do good I pat myself on the back and on bad days I hope no one noticies. I am just and ole country boy that still lives by dont mess with my gal, my truck, or my hounds and everything will be all right. Bottom line I have to feed them , buy meds and clean up their mess. They are a small pack of heathens and they make me happy. Run them bunnies and have fun thats what its about.

I sold a dog the other day and the guy wanted to just come pay me and take her home just because I said she would hunt and run a good rabbit. He took my word because I told him about a dog for sale I had seen run one time before.I quickly told him no that my #1 rule is you HAVE to watch the dog run in my enclosure.I will not sell a dog based on my word (even though you can cash it at the bank!).All buyers must watch a hound run in my pen to see if it fits their needs and not mine.A dog won't lie when it comes to how they run a rabbit.Just watch him and it will show. The good and the bad.But back to the main post, MY DOGS are all that and then some to me and that's all that matters! ;)
