dog food question
a man i know told me that when a certain store feed goes on special again he is going to buy a bunch ahead, i on the hand thinks that feed loses strength the longer it is unused. looking for opinions
When i die,i want to go peacefully like my grandfather did,in his sleep----- not screaming like the passengers in his car.

I guess I would be interested in knowing as well. My friends and I buy a bulk quantity 2-3 times per year, this way I get it delivered to my house at a good price. Last order was for 67 bags, I bought 12 of them, which will last me 5-6 months. I have a tight kennel so there is not a problem with mice, I figure as long as they are unopened they will be fine. We have been doing this for several years now, with no ill effects that I am aware of, I wouldn't think it would loose any strength, but I have been wrong once before.lol. Brian.

Wondering the same
Brian what are you feeding? Been thinking of High Standard or Blackgold. Can't seem to find it anywhere over here in Genessee Co. but my cousin can get High Standard up in Clare. His dogs are doing great even getting a little fat. He also buys by the skid and him and a few other guys split it up. Never heard them complain of feed going stale.

Jim, we are feeding Hi-Standard, 26-18 in the purple bag, I have some pups that I am feeding the 32-18 red bag puppy food, and my father and sister feed the 23-16 blue bag to their non-hunting dogs. All dogs and pups are doing great on it. I feed 1 3/4- 2 1/4 cups per dog, during heavy running season. One of my friends had a female he was feeding some special lamb and rice feed, my sister was feeding a venison and potato feed that was horribly priced, both were because of food allergies from the other feeds they had tried. Both of these dogs are doing fine on the Hi-Standard. I get mine from Thornapple Feed Company, which is right in Palms Mi. They are alot closer to you than they are me, call Paul Warczinsky at 1-877-244-7688. I have had one person tell me they dropped Hi-Standard because a female they had would not keep any weight on during her pregnancy, but personally I have not seen this. Hope this helps. Brian.
ps. The first time I heard of Hi-Standard dog food was standing in Gene Byers, of Lake Ogemaw kennels, garage looking at a pallet of it that he was feeding at the time.

I'm sure it looses "strength" over time, but how long, I have no idea.

Dog food has a Use by date. I wouldn't use it too much past that date but, just like our food we know that some things are good a little longer than the date printed. The main thing with dog food is keeping it dry and out of extreme heat. I would say that storing it 6 months would be as long as I would go.
