Last wed i took out two hounds, Bordercreeks Miss Nellie 6yrs and Colbyhill Mr Grady 2yrs . Put them down at about 8:00 am within 2 min they had a hare up and runnin at noon they were still runnin hard, so i let them run when i went to catch them at 3:00 all i could hear was one hound. Caught him and put him away, then went to look for the other, found her caught by the neck under a log almost dead. I recon what happened is the Hare was able to fit under the log and my hound went after it getting her head stuck. Then she panicked and began to thrash around and the harder she pulled the more she got stuck chocking her. I took her right to the vet but her lungs were so badly damaged from suffacation. I did everything i could for her but she died two days later I buried her on Monday and i think i filled up the hole with more tears than dirt. She will be sadly missed she was an awesome jump dog and Hare hound, plus she was our house pet. I still have 16 hounds out in the kennel but she was special. We had that bond between hound and master that can't be explained. Im sure you guys know what im talking about. She knew what i was thinking before i did sometimes..
Dang Fever Sorry to hear that.
just goes to Show How much these little hounds Get under our Skin No matter how thick we think we are.
just try to remember all the good times she gave you. grab a pup Bring em in the house Sooner or later they will almost fill the void left by your Hound.
Seems to be a risk we take every time we put em on the ground just have to cherish the moments that we have with them..
hang in there.
From Field to Show and Show to Field the way it should be
Sorry for your loss I know how you feel It was quite a few years ago but I can remember it like yesterday. My first and the best hound I have ever hunted with got out of the pen and was running behind the house and was hit by a train. He knew me better than I knew myself and he will always be in my memories. I hope your Nellie and my Duke are somewhere running where the rabbits don't hole and never get tired.

Im sorry to hear the bad news fever. i remember the wolf problem last year. I got one hear thats my best bud. i know what ya mean about that special bond. These hounds sure do find a way to get into our hearts.
Tom - I'm truly sorry to hear of your loss. I remember the one you lost to wolves, we spoke about that on the phone before I came up to WI last year. Just know she'll be happy running snowshoe where she is now.
