Exceed Lamb & Rice Dog Food from Sam's Club

Post by Rob »

Does anyone have any experience with this food?

This is what I have found out. I had heard that it was Purina Pro Plan packaged for Sam's Club (Walmart) under the Exceed name. I called Purina and after some prodding I found that Walmart does contract Purina to make the Lamb & Rice and Lamb & Rice Professional types, but other companies make the other kinds. The representative said that the formulation is NOT the same as Pro Plan.

Just wondering if anyone else has info

pretty simple

all you have to do is check the ingrediants and %age of each... more than likely the only reason its not the same is in the packaging....lol

I have been feeding the Exceed with chicken for a couple years now. I have no idea who makes it though.

please set us know how your dogs do on this food. i know i can tell pretty quickly how my dogs are doing when i switch them to different foods,, quickly from their output and within a week from the the way they react biologically. i know that mine do real well on pro plan performance, but i have had some trouble getting it at my local feed store,,, i have had an order in for about a month and haven't been able to get it. i have also fed them diamond professional,,, also a 30% protein, 20% fat like pro performance,,, they did well on this as well, but it didn't seem as good as on pro plan performance,,, i next bought a product called professional,, ultra formula,,, the guy at the feed store told me that diamond makes it for double m,,,, lists chicken as it's #1 ingrediant,,, also 30/20,, the dogs did well on that,,, nearly as well as pro plan performance. both diamond products tout that they have omega 3 and omega 6 stuff inside,, as well as chondroiton and glucosamine,,, whatever that is,, for the joints i think. but this food is too expensive for me,,, the double m near here charges 27 dollars for the diamond professional,, 35 pound bag,,,, 29 for the ultra professional 35 pound bag and 31 for the pro plan performance, 37 pound bag. i have gone to using black gold, 26/18.. the dogs do pretty well on this too,,, i get it for 16 dollars for a 50 pound bag. i know that i don't have many dogs,, but even with just seven the cost of the food makes a difference. let us know how your dogs do on the exceed.

:D Guys, I have fed diamond adult premium (green bag) for years to my coon dogs, Kemmer Curs, and now to my beagle hounds with excellent results! My hounds do very well and stay in great condition. I use a self feeder in each pen and my young hounds grow off very good also on it. I pay $19.96 for 50 lbs. here for it. It has a 26% protein and 18% fat content. Stools are very firm with less cleanup to do in the kennsl.

I will let you know how it goes.

I used Diamond Green Bag for years. I paid $18.01 for ~ 40 lbs. It never failed, a couple times a month the dogs would get the squirts and more ofter than not it was light brown and loose not dark and tight. Plus in the last year or so I have really started pushing them harder for trialing. I did not quite like the stamina. So thought I would experiment with other foods.

They have been on Iam's green bag for a couple months now with excellent results. Always dark and firm stool (not one instance of the squirts), meaning that they are absorbing most of what they need out of the food. And their endurance has been noticeably better. The only bad thing with Iam's is the price. The green bag is ~ $30 for 44 lbs around here.

So I heard about this Exceed from Sam's Club and it being a lot like Purina Pro Plan. It costs ~ $20 for 44 lbs. If I do not get the same results I will bite the bullet and go back to Iam's.

I started the transition last night, should be out of Iam's and fully on Exceed in about 7-10 days.

I am currently using the Diamond Yellow bag. I have used the Diamond Green bag in the past and have bought a couple bags of the Exceed to try. I have found that the higher protein feeds cause some of my dogs to get hot spots during the summer. So I have gone w/ the Diamond Yellow bag for about a year now and with very good results. When I start running the dogs a whole lot in Jan. - March I start mixing the yellow and green bags. My thought is that unless you are really working your dogs hard every couple days, the real high protein levels are over kill.

Rob, the prices you just listed there are very high compared to what I pay. I get Purina Pro Plan from "Tractor Supply" for $17 for a 50 pound bag.

i also get my proplan from tsc and it is 19.00 for 20lbs and 34.00 for 37.5 lbs my dogs do super good on it.you get what you pay for.i think you are talking about purina hi pro 17.00 for 50 lbs i used to feed it but last year my dogs started taking the squits alot so i changed to proplan and purina one.like i said my dogs do super good on it it is a little high but you dont have to feed as much as with the cheaper brand feedes so in the end it isnt all that pricey.iam feeding 23 dogs and puppys proplan and purina one.great feed in my book.talk to you all later.

I HAVE BEEN USING THIS DOG FOOD FOR ABOUT FOUR YEARS NOW AND WOULDN'T CHANGE FOR THE WORLD. I HAVE DONE EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ON THIS DOG FOOD AND FOUND THAT PURINA DOES MAKE IT. FOR WHAT YOU GET I THINK IT IS REALLY INEXPENSIVE. I FEED MY DOGS ONE CUP EACH PER DAY AND THEY ARE IN GREAT SHAPE. I DON'T WASH DOWN THE KENNELS I SCOOP-UP HARD STOOL. I SPOKE WITH A PURINA REP. ABOUT THE EXDEED AND OF COURSE HE WAS NEGATIVE ABOUT IT BECAUSE HE IS TRYING TO SELL PURINA. HE SAID THE FAT IN PURINA IS IN THE FOOD AND THE FAT IN THE EXCEED IS SPRAYED ON. I HAVE TALKED TO THE SAMS MANAGEMENT ABOUT THEM SPONSORING ME BECAUSE I FEED SO MUCH OF THEIR DOG FOOD BUT IT WAS MORE OF A HASSEL THAN IT WAS WORTH. I HAVE SEVERAL FRIEND THAT HAVE SWITCHED OVER TO EXCEED AND LIKE IT. I DON'T FEED THE LAMB, I FEED THE CHICKEN. HOPE THIS BIT OF INFORMATION HELPS.

Sorry, your right. It is Hi-Pro I get for $17 per 50lb bag. I thought that was the best Purina makes though. So your saying there is a higher grade? I feed my male 1 cup of this per day. How could I feed him any less than that?

I have been told since purnia has sold out to a foreign company all their dog food has changed and also they donate money to P.E.T.A. I feed diamond and if this is true about purina I cannot belive anyone would feed it that is a hunter .I dont know it may be all rumors I would love to know the facts.

My dogs seem to do pretty good on the Exceed. I pay $18.58 per bag for 44lbs. My dogs have nice coats and it seems to keep them nice and lean. I feed my larger hounds 2 cups and the smaller hounds one cup per day. I have tried sportsman’s pride and it seems to be pretty good as well.

I feed Old Roy Professioal 1cup small dog 2 cups big dogs. They all seem to do well on it with no loose stool. Even pups get feed Old Roy puppy and the vet said they are as nice a litter that he has ever seen. Now talk about stool and lots of it. I think pups are like geese, eat a pound and crap two pounds. fred
