A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
kjohns, you just described the coon hunt trials they have here. Accomplishment over all else. Sometimes luck will hurt you if you tree in a hollow tree, but on average you'll win if you have the best accomplishing dog.
I have two 7 mo old pups from spo FC Tucker Run Kid Mokie Bear and they suit me fine. They are smart easy to handle and i often see the rabbit three or four times during a run. they are med speed with good line control. they are not the fastest dogs i,ve seen but the rabbits aren,t napping when i see them ether. they could use a little more hunt but still get the job done to suit me and they will only get better. I,ve been to only one spo trial and they ran each set a hour or more and i didn,t hear any complaints to speak of. from what i,ve seen of this style of dog so far suits me just fine. i have no dought that i will take a few rabbits when season opens.I,ll feed these dogs no problem
