Kevin,
That was TOOOOOO close!

Fortunately, we don't have that problem here, yet. Any space big enough to run dogs has several houses smack dab in the middle, therefore not many yotes.

What is the law about carring a firearm for self defense, you and the dog?

I have yotes right behind my house and several other houses within 500 yards of me. Yotes have been known to drag small children from the backyards. Happened up in Cape Cod several years ago when i was up that way on business. Don't think the yote got him before he was ran off thank God.

I like the idea of setting aside some running time to erradicate these vermin.

I've said when I lose the first dog to a coyote, I am replacing it with a coyote hound.
They are bad around my area too.

keep us all updated Kevin. We all share your pain and know just how special Reggie is to all of us too. You never want to hear bad news about a legend, and Reggie is just that. I'm just glad to have a nice female out of him. She is coming on strong, and is looking just like him.

I've been seeing more yotes than normal this year. I carry a Mark II with me almost every time now. Maybe I should put my .308 in the truck just in case I see some when I'm going in. Sorry to hear about Reggie. I've never seen him run but I've read alot about him.

Best way to deal with that problem if you have room is to take up coyote hunting with hounds.

In my area coyote hunters (houndsmen) out number rabbit hunters about 20 to 1. I have never heard of a coyote attacking a hound of any kind here.

The only danger to this type of hunting is that you may like it so much you quit running beagles!

That was an awesome video, If I had more space I would own me a couple of them yote dogs. I would however add at least one pit bull to the mix as a kill dog. I hate coyotes, never had to deal with them in NC but have to be on the look out at all times here in OH

Big Dog I heard them where I run the other night when I was on the way back to the truck. I hustled the dogs back to the box. The next evening I went out with a howler and a .243 but did not have any luck. My buddy is a beef cattle farmer, he shot one with a .300 ultramag  last year after hitting a bleat can call. He weighed about 48 lbs.
I tried to locate them with the howl and then was going to set up with a squealer. Will this work ? They don't seem to be in the same place twice.
I know guys here that run fox/ coyote dogs, but they only run them in big pens.
I am glad that Reggie will live to run another day. He must be a special hound. I hope that this does not affect him at all.
