finding the time
Just curious how everyone finds the time to work and run these little dogs we love so much seems like everything in the world trys to permit me from running mine either its been work and no time or its been so hot this summer, can't run of a night in fear of the coyotes. and now that the weathers cooled down all of my females are in heat what next and the funny part is about 10yrs ago i used to just keep a few dogs and didn't work so much always said ever get a better dog id improve but the truth be told when i didn't work so much and made alot less money i had better dogs because i actually got time to run them i used to run dogs 4 or 5 times a week now im lucky to get out once a week so how do you guys do it.

Don't feel bad, I haven't been out in over a month. Between moving, getting rid of a dog and then getting a rescue beagle that I owned once upon a time and getting him back into some kind of shape that I wouldn't kill him if I ran him.... I haven't had the time. Not to mention that I don't know where to run around here yet.......

I also work 3rd shift and that does work well for running hounds, at least for me. I get out at 6:30am. and I can have hounds on the ground by 7:30.

I know what you mean! Work 50-60 hours a week-leave home before daylight, get home at dusk, can't run at night because of all the "wild things" out there. I do get out a few times a week and it is a family affair. When the weather is cooler, on the weekends, l still leave home before daylight and get home at dusk, but I'm out with the dogs the whole time
Of course there are times when regular life (as opposed to beagle life) gets in the way and you can't run as much as you want, but I won't give it up for ANYTHING

Real sorry to hear about that. I'm fortunate that my wife understands and doesn't mind about my "other life". She was raised in a hunting family and knows what it is like. I have an almost two year old boy and I can't hardly wait to start taking him with me. He already loves the dogs. As much as I love hunting and fishing and running dogs, if it meant my family, I believe I would be done.wildcatfan0309 wrote:i just give it up last week
no family time at all
Well I work Mon - Fri and don't run dogs till the weekend. Saturday and Sunday morning are reserved for running dogs. I have been running every Saturday and Sunday thru out the whole spring and summer. Saturdays and Sundays are the only days I rabbit hunt too during hunting season. On holidays I'll take a day OFF before or after the holiday and have an extended rabbit hunting holiday.
Run them when you can... what can you do.

I am really fortunate in that I have worked the same job for 20 years. Started on 3rd shift and progressed to 1st about 15 years ago. I work 7 to 3:30 and probably less than 50 hours of overtime a year. I had my hobbies when I met my wife so she new what she was getting and I think she loves the hounds as much as I do.Friday night is her night we do what she plans. The rest of the week based on what I need to get done around the house I plan as much running time as I can. I'm a lucky man.
Have you tried Canaan CA over north of Bland? It's probably not the best for gunning but it could be an adequate place to run your hounds. I've never been there but just read the MDC description and looked at the map on the MDC website.Emery wrote:Not to mention that I don't know where to run around here yet.......
